A braking device for a rotor shaft of a rotor spinning machine of the type having spaced pairs of rotating bearing support discs. A brake shoe is pivoted for movement upwardly between the bearing support discs and a pair of holddown elements are pivoted for movement downwardly from above the bearing support discs against the rotor shaft to hold the rotor shaft in the nip of the bearing support discs while the brake shoe is acting to brake the rotor shaft, with the holddown elements applying a cleaning action on the rotor shaft. The manipulating mechanism for the holddown elements and brake shoe are such as to apply a greater force downwardly through the holddown elements than is applied upwardly by the brake shoe so that the rotor shaft will remain in the nip of the bearing support discs during the application of braking by the brake shoe. Further, the coefficient of friction between the brake shoe and the rotor shaft is greater than the coefficient of friction between the holddown elements and the rotor shaft to avoid undue friction on the rotor shaft at the location of the bearing support discs.

Bearing arrangement for an open-end spinning machine has a bearing block attached to bearing supports defined on the machine frame. A seat is defined in the bearing block for receipt of an axial bearing. An intermediate support structure member is removably attached to the bearing block and supporting ring bearings. The intermediate support structure is removable from the bearing block with the supporting ring bearings while the bearing block remains attached to the machine frame through bearing supports.

The present invention provides a process and device for the reduction of energy consumption in operating spinning elements in driving spinning rotors of open-spinning machines or the spindle drive of ring spinning machine or the roving frame. It is the object of the invention to constantly keep energy consumption in the operation of spinning element at a minimum. Contact pressure between each spinning element and the indirect driving device is adjusted as a function of the momentary difference between the rotational speed of the spinning element and of its driving device in stationary operation while rotational speeds only nominally change, so that the slippage between indirect driving device and spinning element remains constant in time.
