摘要： A drive system (1) for a harvesting machine has a drive train (4) connected by a coupling device (5) with a drive motor (6). The drive train (4) has a hydrostatic transmission (10) with a variable displacement pump (11) and a hydraulic motor (12) connected in a closed circuit to the pump (11). The hydraulic motor (12) is connected to a feeder device (2). For quickly stopping the feeder device (2), the pump (11) is set to a displacement of zero by an electronic control system (15) and the feeder device (2) is braked by a pressure protection device (40). For a chopper device (3), the hydraulic motor (12) is cut off by the electronic control system (15). The drive train (4) is isolated from the drive motor (6) by uncoupling the coupling device (5) and the pump (11) is set to the maximum displacement volume.

The drive train also drives a first pump (28) connected with the drum (14) which pumps fluid around a hydraulic circuit which includes an openable restriction (40). The system is arranged to brake the chopper drum (14) by disengaging the clutch (21) and arranging the first pump (28) to pump fluid around the circuit via the openable restriction (40) as the drum (14) continues to rotate to convert the energy of the rotating drum (14) into heat.

摘要： An agricultural harvesting machine, such as a forage harvester, comprises a feeder means for feeding crop material to crop processing means and a feeder arrest means for immediately arresting at least a portion of said feeder means upon detection of a foreign object. Said arrest means comprises a ratchet wheel mounted onto the drive line of said feeder means and an electrical actuator means for loading a pawl into engagement with said ratchet wheel.The harvesting machine comprises a means for automatically monitoring the good operative condition of the electrical actuator means and the means for generating an alarm signal upon detection of a bad operative condition by said monitoring means. The monitoring means checks the condition of the electrical actuator and its circuitry by applying a voltage thereto during a short interval and monitoring the response during or immediately after said interval. The length of this short interval is chosen to preclude actual engagement of the pawl. This test procedure can be executed automatically at regular intervals.

摘要： The invention relates to crop harvesting machines fitted with detector means for detecting the presence of undesirable objects such as metallic objects. The invention seeks to solve the problem of known machines in which some form of slipping clutch is provided which operates when drive is arrested due to the presence of an undesirable object and which may overheat, and the problem of normal drive being re-established without first ensuring the removal of the offending object. According to the invention a harvesting machine comprises crop processing means, feeder means for feeding crop material to the processing means, a drive train for driving the feeder means, and detector means for detecting undesirable objects passing through the feeder means, the detector means being operable upon the detection of an undesirable object to initiate instantaneous arrest of the drive to the feeder means and to break the drive train for the feeder means.The arrest of the drive to the feeder means may be virtually simultaneously with, or slightly after, the breaking of the feeder means drive train.

摘要： Cutting rotor for a forage harvester in the form of a plurality of blades mounted between two end plates each blade having a nick or groove in at least one surface so that on impact with a hard object the blade will break at the nick and thus reduce damage to the rotor. The blades have aerofoil sections at their inner edges and the end plates are scalloped between the blades to give improved air flow. The blades operate against a stationary ledger plate which is adjustable and is also movable under abnormal shock conditions and the casing for the rotor is of variable thickness so that if a hard object is drawn into the machine, damage is confined to those parts of the casing which are most easily replaced.

摘要： An agricultural harvesting machine, such as a forage harvester comprises a set of feedrolls (20, 21, 26, 27) for feeding harvested crop material to a rotating cutterhead (36). The feedrolls are driven by a hydraulic drive means comprising a hydrostatic pump (123) coupled to the engine (70) of the harvesting machine, a hydrostatic motor (80) coupled to said feeder means (20, 21, 26, 27) and hydraulic circuitry (142, 143, 152) interconnecting the pump and the motor. The circuitry comprises a feeder arrest valve (165) which is operable to interrupt the oil flow from said hydrostatic motor (80), thereby arresting said feedrolls (20, 21, 26, 27). The hydrostatic motor (80) is provided with a flushing valve (156) for diverting part of the oil flow in said circuitry through said motor for lubricating and cooling the latter. The arrest valve (165) is provided in said circuitry (142, 143, 152) between the hydrostatic motor (80) and the flushing valve (156). This arrangement allows for an immediate and efficacious arresting of the feedrolls upon detection of a foreign object in the harvested crop.

摘要： A foreign object detector comprises an inertial sensor mounted for displacement with one of the displaceable rolls in the feed mechanism of a forage harvester. When a foreign object is forced through the rolls, the acceleration of the rolls' displacement exceeds a predetermined threshold and the detector stops the feed mechanism. Preferably, the detector's sensor is a microswitch having an inertially-actuable lever and which is mounted for displacement with the upper feed roll. More preferably, the detector's circuitry ties into existing metal detector circuitry for reducing cost and complexity, while being easily retrofitted into existing forage harvesters.
