A stone in the stream is detected by continuously producing an output corresponding to the transverse deflection of the one conveyor element per unit of time, continuously monitoring the feed velocity and producing an output corresponding to actual feed velocity, and establishing for the predetermined feed velocity a predetermined threshold value for the transverse-deflection output. In addition for actual feed velocities different from the predetermined feed velocity respective threshold values are established that are equal to the predetermined threshold value multiplied by the quotient of the actual feed velocity squared divided by the predetermined feed velocity squared. Action—sounding an alarm, stopping the machine, and/or ejecting the stone—is taken when the transverse-deflection output exceeds the threshold value for the respective actual feed velocity.

A control system utilizes operator satisfaction information for controlling an agricultural harvesting machine having adjustable crop processing structure. The control system includes actuators for controlling the crop processing structure and a controller connected to the actuators and to quality sensor structure. Information for at least one quality parameter of the harvesting process is entered on an operator input device, the entry being dependent on the level of satisfaction the operator perceives concerning the parameter, and the controller controls the actuators based on the operator satisfaction input. The controller stores information about the relationship between the output of the sensor and the satisfaction entry, and this relationship information is used for subsequent control purposes.

A harvester has a thresher for receiving at an intake a mixture of straw and grain and for separating the mixture into grain, straw, and tailings comprised of mixed grain and straw and a conveyor recirculates a stream of the tailings along a path back to the intake. A sensor is positioned in the path and intercepts at least a portion of the stream for counting a number of grains in the portion of the stream passing the sensor. The conveyor includes an elevator for raising the tailings stream to a location above the sensor and for dropping the tailings stream on the sensor. The thresher includes a main threshing drum and a cleaning unit downstream therefrom.

An agricultural combine having a supporting structure that is driven by ground engaging wheels at a harvesting speed by a propulsion assembly. The combine is also provided with a threshing assembly that is driven by a variable torque sensing drive. The variable torque sensing drive is manipulated by pressurized hydraulic fluid. A hydraulic sensor in hydraulic communication with the variable torque sensing drive provides an actual hydraulic pressure signal that is directed to an electronic controller. An operator control in the operator's cab of the combine provides a loss rate signal that is also directed to the electronic controller. The electronic controller converts the loss rate signal into a desired hydraulic pressure signal. The electronic controller regulates the forward speed (harvesting speed) of the combine so that the desired hydraulic pressure signal is equal to the actual pressure signal. The harvesting speed regulation can be modified or overridden by moisture signals from a moisture sensor located in the feederhouse for sensing the moisture content of harvested crop.

An apparatus for measuring at least one parameter of material and generating multiple frequency signals having frequencies selectable by control signals, combining the multiple frequency signals into a combined frequency signal having multiple frequency components, and applying the combined frequency signal as an excitation signal to a sensing element. The frequency response of the material is determined at each of the multiple frequencies using output signals from the sensing element, and a frequency analysis is performed to determine the parameters of the material. The sensing element may include a capaciflector sensor located non-intrusively along the surface of a conveyor. However, other sensing elements such as capacitive, resistive and inductive elements may be used. The parameters being measured may include mass flow rate and moisture content. The apparatus includes a frequency generating circuit for generating a frequency signal having multiple frequency components, a sensing circuit which applies the frequency signal as an excitation signal to a sensing element, a signal conditioning circuit which determines the frequency response of the material at the multiple frequencies based upon output signals from the sensing element, and a signal processing circuit for performing a frequency analysis. The apparatus may be used to measure parameters of material being moved by a vehicle-mounted conveyor. A pink or white noise generator may be used for the frequency generating circuit.
