The motor includes a housing with a main body having a rear endbell, a stator compartment with stator windings, and a first ball bearing. The motor includes a lid having a second ball bearing, and a rotor with a shaft having a first end positioned in the first ball bearing and a second end positioned in the second ball bearing. An epoxy coating is used to overmold the stator compartment, the stator windings, and the rotor. The motor includes a printed circuit board assembly treated with an adhesion promotor and positioned adjacent to the rotor and stator windings. A silicone sealant is used to encapsulate the printed circuit board assembly, the rotor, and the stator windings and reacts with the adhesion promotor. The motor includes a gasket between the lid and the main body.

In a mower of the cross-flow blower type the rotor of the blower has a plurality of sections with predetermined blades of at least two adjacent sections of opposite helix angle and having cutting edges which overlap in the axial direction and are angularly spaced about the rotor axis in the overlap region, thereby producing counteracting axial components of air velocity. Preferably at least one blade in each section is shorter than the rotor length and advantgeously all blades in a section are shorter, with ends angularly spaced from and overlapping the ends of the blades of adjacent sections. Preferably each section has blades of opposite helix angle to produce counteracting components of air velocity in each section. Advantgeously each section of the rotor is formed of an integral sheet bent to form end supports and a pair of blades of opposite helix angle. The blades are preferably of the hook type with the leading edges of the hooks serrated. Marked reduction in blower noise can be attained, with good mower performance.

A forage harvester has an axially horizontal cylinder-type cutterhead with a plurality of elongated angularly spaced and axially extending knives at the cutterhead periphery with parallel cutting edges generating a cylinder as the cutterhead rotates. A knife sharpening device is mounted on the harvester adjacent to the cutterhead and includes a sharpening stone adjustable into engagement with the knives at the cutterhead periphery and reciprocatable along the entire length of the knives parallel to the cutterhead axis. In operation the cutterhead is rotated so that the cutting edges are on the advance side of the knives. However, means are provided for reversing the rotation of the cutterhead while the knives are being sharpened so that the sharpening stone engages the heel portion of each knife before the cutting edge, the outward deflection of the sharpening stone due to the engagement with the knives providing a small degree of heel relief on the knives.
