Abstract: A method for a tree processing head to harvest a tree includes initiating a cutting operation on a tree, the cutting operation including powering a cutting chain of a saw bar driven by a motor; securing the tree; moving the saw bar via an actuator, the saw bar configured to be moved from a home position to a first position and to a second position, and the first position and the second position defining a cutting zone; detecting a hydraulic pressure of at least one of the motor and the actuator by a sensor; determining whether the second position is reached based upon a decrease of the hydraulic pressure by a controller; and transmitting a resting signal to the tree processing head to perform a resting operation when the controller determines that the second position is reached.

Abstract: A tree processing system may include a tree processing head and a controller. The tree processing head may include a header frame, a motor, a saw, an arm, and a sensor. The saw is used to cut a tree when the saw is driven by the motor. The saw engages with the tree from a first position and to a second position. The first position and the second position define a cutting zone therebetween. The sensor is used to detect a saw operation speed or current. The controller is coupled to the sensor and configured to determine whether the second position is reached based upon an increase of the saw operation speed or current detected by the sensor. When the second position is reached, the controller transmits a resting signal to the tree processing head to perform a resting operation.

The forestry machine further comprises a stator having coils thereon adapted to produce a time varying stator magnetic field, a rotor having at least either a set of slots or a set of permanent magnets mounted thereon facing the stator and adapted to produce a radially directed flux or an axially directed flux. The rotor is rotatably coupled to the stator in axial alignment therewith by the time varying stator magnetic field. The rotor comprises a saw blade.

Abstract: A machine operates in conjunction with an aircraft, such as a helicopter, for harvesting or removing trees. The device can be powered by the aircraft, by electrical or hydraulic connection with the aircraft, or it may have an independent, self-contained power source. The device includes jaws for grasping a tree, and a saw for cutting the tree. The weight of the device is borne by a strong and flexible cord suspended from the aircraft. Various motors enable the position of the device to be remotely controlled, so as to grasp and remove tree trunks. The invention is especially useful for removing trees from areas which are difficult to reach by land.

Abstract: A work vehicle includes a frame assembly and an attachment assembly. The attachment assembly has an attachment end pivotally connected to the frame assembly and a distal end configured for receiving a variable load. At least one force sensor senses at least one force associated with the attachment end. The at least one force sensor provides an output signal representing the sensed at least one force. An inclination sensor senses an inclination associated with the frame assembly and provides an output signal representing the sensed inclination. An electrical processing circuit is configured for receiving the output signal from the at least one force sensor, determining a value of a couple at the frame assembly which is associated with the sensed at least one force, comparing the couple with a threshold value which is dependent on the sensed inclination, and controlling the controllable output dependent on the comparison.

Abstract: A work vehicle gyroscopic boom assembly control system utilizes gyroscopically-measured angular velocity data to control boom movement. The work vehicle includes an operator interface, a boom assembly, a first gyroscope, and a controller. The boom assembly includes a first boom element coupled to a first actuator, which is controllable to rotate the first boom element about a first pivot joint. During operation of the work vehicle, the controller receives an operator request for boom assembly movement via the operator interface, converts the operator request to a target angular velocity of the first boom element, and selectively commands the first actuator to adjust rotation of the first boom element based, at least in part, on the target angular velocity and a current angular velocity of the first boom element sensed by the first gyroscope.
