    摘要: A system for trimming a lettuce head using a digital imaging system and cutting mechanism. The lettuce head is conveyed between a lower feed conveyor and an upper feed conveyor that is disposed a fixed distance over and substantially aligned with a lower feed conveyor. The digital imaging system is configured to capture an image of the lettuce head and determine a cutting profile using the image. The cutting mechanism is disposed over the lower feed conveyor and includes: a servo motor mechanically coupled to a drive shaft; an armature with a pivot end mounted to the drive shaft and a sweep end disposed a radial distance from the pivot end; a cutting nozzle, mounted to the sweep end of the armature, configured to trim the lettuce head; and servo-control circuitry configured to articulate the cutting nozzle through a cutting arc based on the cutting profile.

A pivoting cutting frame may house cutting assemblies with curved cutting blades configured to cut produce. The pivoting cutting frame may pivot to a lowered position above the endless conveyor to locate the cutting assemblies in a cutting location. A primary connecting rod may synchronically couple the endless conveyor with the pivoting cutting frame such that the produce holding cups and cutting assemblies converge at the cutting location. At convergence, a positional sensor may trigger an actuator to close the cutting assemblies and cut the produce. With produce such as broccoli and cauliflower, the cutting may produce florets.

    摘要: A conveyor system includes a plurality of produce clamps that rotate around a clamp conveyor assembly. On a field side of the conveyor system, a synchronous conveyor belt provides a support for the butt or stem of a plant placed thereon, in between clamps. As the clamp conveyor turns away from the field side, the clamps close and fully support the plants. The conveyor assembly carries the clamps, and the clamped plants, through a series of coring and trimming blades. The clamps then open to release the cored and trimmed product onto a collection conveyor, and the clamps continue to the field side to receive further plants for processing.

    摘要: An apparatus for the cutting out of vegetable heads, in particular cauliflower, fruits or parts thereof which have on their underside a central part (stipe), which is to be cut out from the surrounding part along a hemispherical or ogival face. The diameter of the cauliflower is established and the value determined is used for setting and controlling the cutter which is guided on a circular path, for adapting the diameter of the cutter circular path and the penetration depth of the cutter. In addition, the height of the cauliflower to be worked is also sensed, and the values for diameter and height are converted into electric signals and then processed to form setting signals. These setting signals are used for electromechanical control of the cutting operation in such a manner that the adjustment of the diameter of the cutter circular path is carried out independently of the adjustment of the cutter penetration depth.

    摘要: A cauliflower coring apparatus and method in which cauliflower heads are fed one-by-one into a housing by a conveyor having bowls for receiving the heads, each bowl having a number of spikes on which the heads are impaled. A shiftable beam in the housing carries a first rotary cutter and a vertically adjustable hold-down ring for engaging a head to keep it from moving out of its bowl as the first cutter rotates and removes the culls from the head by a coring effect. After its culls have been removed, the head is engaged and cut by a second rotary cutter which disintegrates the head and separates it into curds. The culls and curds drop into respective first and second chutes and onto first and second conveyors for movement away from the housing.

    摘要: A broccoli quartering machine for quartering spears of broccoli includes a conveyor adapted to move in a lineal path and having rigid plates upon which are mounted resilient, conical, cup-shaped holding members for holding the individual spears of broccoli. The apex of the cup-shaped members extends downward through an opening in each plate and is open, and each cup-shaped member includes at least two pairs of slots which extend from the open apex upward toward the base of the cup-shaped member. A plurality of cam followers are mounted on the cup-shaped members and contact a guide strip on the machine frame so as to align one pair of the slots with a first cutting disc and to engage a cam on the machine frame to rotate the cup-shaped member and the spear of broccoli therein 90.degree. between the first cutting disc and the second cutting disc so as to align the remaining pair of slots with the second cutting disc.
