摘要： A sensor apparatus may include a channel structure configured to couple with an external element and a fluid conduit, such that the channel structure may receive a fluid, at least partially drawn through the external element from an ambient environment, and direct the fluid through the fluid conduit. A sensor may generate sensor data indicating a flow rate of the fluid through the fluid conduit based on monitoring a variation in a pressure at a location in hydrodynamic contact with the fluid conduit and in relation to an ambient pressure of the ambient environment. The sensor apparatus may enable generation of improved topography information associated with flows of fluid drawn from the external element based on measuring a local pressure at the location in hydrodynamic contact with the fluid conduit and determining the ambient pressure based on monitoring the local pressure over time.

摘要： A system for simulating ash removal from a smoking article and a related method are provided. The system includes a support arrangement supporting at least a portion of a smoking article to form a cantilever with respect to the support arrangement. The system also includes a suction device in fluid communication with the first longitudinal end of the smoking article, the suction device being configured to apply suction to the first longitudinal end to simulate a draw or puff on the smoking article. The system further includes an ignition device configured to ignite an ignitable material of the smoking article about the second longitudinal end thereof, the ignited ignitable material being transformed to an ash in response to successive draws or puffs applied by the suction device. The system still further including an ash-dislodging mechanism configured to selectively impact the cantilevered smoking article to periodically remove the ash.

摘要： An apparatus for collecting samples of smoke components from predetermined segments of drawn smoke during a predetermined time interval is disclosed. The apparatus includes a smoking machine for drawing successive individual puffs of smoke from a cigarette and for providing a predetermined path of travel for drawn smoke. The particulate matter of the drawn smoke is collected on a filter pad positioned on a movable stage for providing relative movement between the filter pad and the path of travel of the drawn smoke. Advantageously, the filter pad is moved transversely relative to the path of travel of the drawn smoke. A method for collecting samples of smoke components of drawn smoke is also provided.

摘要： Apparatus and method for collecting sidestream smoke produced by a cigarette is disclosed. The apparatus includes a chamber that has upper and lower portions between which smoke may freely move. A cigarette holder is attached to the lower portion so that substantially all of the sidestream smoke produced by the cigarette is released into the chamber means. Smoking means is connected to the cigarette holder means to intermittently draw air through the cigarette and segregate the mainstream smoke from the sidestream smoke. The total relative amount of sidestream smoke may be measured by measuring the opacity of the collected sidestream smoke.

摘要： The disposable filter device of the invention is particularly suited for testing for the amounts of tars and nicotine in cigarettes and comprises a housing having two components (2,4) one of which has a cylindrical portion (8) and the other of which has an annular flange (48) whereby the two members can be telescoped together with a filter disc (6) therebetween for collecting the tars and nicotine. The member with the cylindrical portion is formed of a relatively soft resilient substantially non-hygroscopic polymer and the member with the annular flange is formed of a relatively hard substantially non-hygroscopic polymer. The resiliency of the member with the cylindrical portion in combination with the relative hardnesses of the members and the particular shapes of the telescoped portions (12,48) enables the two members to be removably secured together with an excellent seal therebetween. Because both members are of substantially non-hygroscopic polymers, the device is substantially free of moisture absorption and hence free of inaccuracies, due to moisture absorption, in determining the amounts of tar and nicotine collected.

摘要： A holder for a flat circular filter attached to a smoking machine is provided with a rotatable support for the filter pad. The smoke inlet and suction outlet for the filter holder are offset from the center of the pad and holder and are in matching positions at opposite faces of the pad. At the initiation of each puff, a rotator is synchronized to turn the support and pad through a predetermined arc so that the smoke particulates are spread along said arc of the filter pad. The products of an individual puff are thus positioned for the study of puff fractions. Multiple puffs may be handled on one pad.
