摘要:
A self-adhering eye patch with an adhesive backing for securing the patch to the face of a user. The patch includes an inner foam or inflatable bladder for atraumatically maintaining the lid of the eye closed. A cover covers the inner member and the inner member is of sufficient thickness to maintain the lid securely closed without damaging the eye. A shield member to enhance the protection of the eye may also be utilized.

An eyeshield for covering an eye that is being treated for some medical problem, so as to shield the eye until such time as it has healed. The eyeshield includes a substantially firm but bendable foraminous member having a concave interior surface that is adapted to be juxtaposed with the eye--to create a kind of shallow "vault" over the eye. The preferred material for the foraminous member is a sheet of 6061 aluminum alloy having a thickness of about 0.025 inch. The member has a peripheral edge or rim having the general shape of an ellipse, with a major axis of about 3 inches and a minor axis of about 2.4 inches. The eyeshield also includes a relatively thick but lightweight border that is permanently mounted around the rim in such a way as to completely envelop the same. The thick border is preferably formed from a flexible material that has rubber-like properties, so that it may yield to any manual bending of the foraminous member that may be accomplished in order to make the member achieve a better fit with the particular bone structure of a given patient. The foraminous member has a multitude of small apertures, preferably 100 or more, that are adapted to foster ventilation of the eye and the nearby facial skin. It also has a plurality of peripheral recesses, to aid in integrally molding the border to the foraminous member. Thus, the border and foraminous member may be permanently affixed to each other--and interlocked in such a way as to prevent any relative rotation therebetween.

Dry eye treatment apparatus and methods are described herein which generally comprise a patch or strip affixed to the skin of the upper and/or lower eyelids to deliver heat or other forms of energy, pressure, drugs, moisture, etc. (alone or in combination) to the one or more meibomian glands contained within the underlying skin. The treatment strip or strips include one or more strips configured to adhere to an underlying region of skin in proximity to one or both eyes of a subject such that the one or more strips allow for the subject to blink naturally without restriction from the one or more patches. Moreover, the one or more strips may be configured to emit energy to the underlying region of skin and where the one or more strips are shaped to follow a location of one or more meibomiam glands contained within the underlying region of skin.

The adhesive capability of matrix-type transdermal devices for the delivery of drugs, cosmetics, emollients and the like is altered by incorporating into the pressure-sensitive adhesive an effective amount of a polydiorganosiloxane polymer fluid adhesion adjusting agent. The properties of the pressure-sensitive adhesive are modified to enable a matrix-type patch to adhere temporarily to the skin for a period sufficient to accomplish its desired delivery purpose and then be removed without causing skin damage or irritation and without leaving substantial adhesive residue on the skin. Polydimethylsiloxanes (dimethicones) are preferred adhesion adjusting agents and acrylic-based polymers are preferred pressure-sensitive adhesives. Matrix-type patches containing anti-wrinkle agents formulated with dimethicones in the adhesive for application to areas on the face and particularly around the eyes are especially useful.

An eyelid splint has a structural backing member having head-encircling straps having adjustable strap fasteners, such as Velcro.RTM.. A flexible resilient pad is removably mounted to the inner surface of the backing member, which is preferably concave. The pad is attached to the backing member by means of an adhesive having a low-peel adhesion strength (i.e., generally less than 20 oz.) enabling easy removal and replacement of the pad.

An ophthalmic therapeutic pressure bandage comprising a conformable, permeable carrier tape including a hypoallergenic pressure-sensitive adhesive, and incorporating as a part thereof a resilient, absorbent foam pad of sufficient thickness to apply light-therapeutic pressure to the eye to prevent nictation. The resilient pad having an interlayer of absorbent non-woven web material attached to the foam layer, and a non-adherent facing bonded to said web material to prevent sticking of the pad to the tissues when the bandage is in use.

A method and apparatus for protecting and treating wounds are provided. A housing is adapted to be adhesively secured over the wound of an injured or infected person. The housing has an opening for access to the wound, and is further provided with inlet and outlet ports for the application of therapeutic materials. There is particularly provided a program for a closed looped system for such wound care. Additionally, the invention provides for a protective and treating cover for the eye, which can be either opaque or translucent. Additionally, a mechanism for accurately depositing eye drops without risking injury to the eye is also provided.

This invention is directed to a therapeutic patch for ophthalmologic and cosmetic use that provides therapy to the region where the patch is provided; the therapeutic patch provides a therapeutic delivery surface for placement against, for example, the eyelid and peri-orbital structures of a patient, and a non-contacting surface that can be used, for example, to generate heat and/or moisture for transmission to the surface to which therapy is being applied. The invention also includes a kit for at-home care of a region requiring therapy, in a manner that inhibits transmission of infectious agents.
