摘要: An auxiliary frame system for a wheelchair, the wheelchair having a frame comprising two openings to releasably attach axle portions of rear wheels and defining between them a main rear wheel axis; wherein the auxiliary frame system comprises: a pair of wheel displacing elements; fastening elements to releasably attach each wheel displacing element to the frame of the wheelchair through the openings; wheel holders for bearing respective rear wheels of the wheelchair, wherein each of the wheel holders is associated with a respective wheel displacing element, and the wheel holders define between them a shifted rear wheel axis; at least one anchoring link to releasably secure at least one of the wheel displacing elements to the frame of the wheelchair at an additional attachment point. Also provided are wheelchairs comprising such auxiliary frame system and methods to displace the position of rear wheels of a wheelchair.

A wheelchair powering device includes a motor that is operatively coupled to a roller member so that rotation of the motor shaft causes rotation of the roller member. The roller member may be engaged against a tire of the wheelchair so that rotation of the roller member causes rotation of the tire via friction between the roller member and tire.

摘要: A wheelchair frame having a seat for supporting a forward facing occupant therein, rear wheels supporting the frame thereon proximate a rear end of the frame and front wheels supporting the frame thereon proximate a front end of the frame, further includes a front seat height adjustment mechanism which permits a height of a front end of the seat relative to the front wheels to be adjusted separately from or together with a rear end height adjustment of the rear end of the seat relative to the rear wheels. The front seat height adjustment mechanism can also be operable to lower the front seat height relative to the front wheels simultaneously with a rear seat height adjustment mechanism which is biased to raise the rear seat height relative to the rear wheels to assist users in moving from a sitting position towards a more standing position.

摘要: Means for reconfiguring a wheelchair are disclosed wherein a user or an occupant of the wheelchair is enabled to repeatably alternate the wheelchair between an original load-bearing configuration and a modified load-bearing configuration by engaging and disengaging a ground-contacting adaptive implement operatively connected to a load transitioning mechanism, said load transitioning mechanism adapted for connection to a forward portion of the wheelchair. Embodiments according to the present invention enable an occupant of the wheelchair to alternate the wheelchair, through a cyclic operation sequence, between the original configuration and the modified configuration by toggling of a manipulable switch and subsequent momentary reclining of the wheelchair. The user willfully effectuates a change in the angular disposition of the ground-contacting adaptive implement relative to the wheelchair about a substantially horizontal joint axis wherein in the modified configuration a deployed angular orientation is maintained under load-bearing conditions during travel of the wheelchair in all directions. Embodiments of the present invention enable wheelchair reconfiguration with simplicity of operation while ensuring rigid attachment of a ground-contacting adaptive implement to the wheelchair to confer special functionalities to the wheelchair while preserving comfort and safety for the user while the wheelchair is in the modified load-bearing configuration.

In various examples, the adjustable mobility assistive device includes a first frame including a slotted rail S1 and a slotted rail S3 coupled by post P1 and post P3. Both slotted rail S1 and slotted rail S3 may be quarter circular in shape. The adjustable mobility assistive device also includes a second frame including a slotted rail S2 and a slotted rail S4 coupled by post P2 and post P4. Both slotted rail S2 and slotted rail S4 may be quarter circular in shape. Post P2 is slidably connected to slotted rail S1 and slotted rail S3, and post P3 is slidably connected to slotted rail S2 and slotted rail S4. Post P2 is adjacent to post P3 when in a fully extended position and post P1 is adjacent to post P2 and post P3 is adjacent to post P4 in a retracted position.

摘要: The presently disclosure describes a motion assistance system for a wheelchair, for example, a powered drive wheel system that can continually drive a wheelchair in a circular or elliptical path. The motion assistance system comprises a mounting mechanism attachable to one or more structural elements of the wheelchair, and a drive linkage pivotable with respect to the mounting mechanism. A drive wheel can be mounted to an end of the drive linkage such that the drive wheel contacts the ground when installed on the wheelchair. The drive wheel comprises a plurality of lateral rollers positioned radially about the circumference of the power drive wheel. The lateral rollers can rotate about an axis tangential to the circumference of the drive wheel in order to facilitate driving the wheelchair in a radial direction.
