摘要: A lifting mechanism for a raking structure in a solids-liquid separation tank comprising a fixed column adapted to extend vertically within the tank, a movable column being adapted to support a raking structure for the tank, and a lift device for raising and lowering said movable column telescopically with respect to said fixed column. The lift device includes an elongate flexible tension member; a first series of load points on the fixed column at spaced intervals on the fixed column; and a second series of lift points on the movable column below said first series of points and at spaced intervals on the movable column, the tension member being alternately threaded between load and lift points of said first and second series of points, with the tension member thus being led over one of said load points, down and below one of said lift points and back up and over the next load point. A power driven drum is provided means for selectively pulling and paying out said tension member for drawing the lift points up toward the load points for raising the movable column, and for allowing the lift points to move down away from the load points for lowering the movable column, respectively.

摘要: 635,573. Gravity-separation apparatus. GENERAL AMERICAN TRANSPORTATION CORPORATION. March 27, 1947, No. 8305. Convention date, Feb. 16, 1946. [Class 111] [Also in Group XXIV] A sedimentation tank includes rotary rake means suspended by a vertical shaft and fluid pressure means for raising and lowering the shaft to adjust the operating height of the rake means. The apparatus may include means for discharging settled matter from the bottom of the tank, and the fluid pressure means may raise and lower the rake means with respect to the bottom of the tank. As shown in Fig. 3, the mechanism comprises a cylinder structure 21 centrally supported on girders 19 which span a circular tank, and a piston member 24 to which is attached a scraper shaft 13, and on which is supported a motor 37 and gearing for rotating the shaft and piston. The shaft 13 is welded to the bottom 24a of the piston 24 and braced by web-plates 24c. Secured to the top of the piston is a gear-ring 33 in a housing comprising upper and lower plates 28, 30, and a further gear-ring 29. A pinion 38 driven by the motor 37 drives two pairs of planetary gears 39, 40 round the inside of the gear-ring 29, the housing being prevented from rotating by rods 31 bearing against stops 32 on the cylinder member 21. The lower members 39b, 40b, of the gears 39, 40, having a different number of teeth from the upper members 39a, 40a, drive the gear-ring 33 and with it the piston 24 and shaft 13 at a rate depending on this difference. Pressure fluid can be supplied through pipe 26a to a space 160 below the piston whereby the scrapers, shaft, piston, housing and motor rise as a unit, the rotational motion not being affected. In a modification the'pinion 38 drives two diametrically opposite gears mounted on bearings in a central flange in the housing, the gears having pinions secured to them beneath the flange which drive an externally-toothed gear-ring mounted on top of the piston. In the modification shown in Fig. 5 the piston member is fixed, the scraper shaft being secured to, and rotating with, the cylinder member. A piston 92 is secured to a framework 91 mounted on the girder 19 and has an axial space within which a shaft 90 is free to slide vertically and rotate in bearings 134, 134a. A cylinder 104 is secured by keys 115, 116, 117, Fig. 6, in slots 118, 119, 120 in the hub 93b of a worm gear 93 driven in a circular bearing 96 by three motors one of which is shown at 100 mounted on top of the housing 91c, the cylinder being thus constrained to rotate with the gear 93 but free to slide vertically with respect to it. The shaft 90 is secured to an extension 105a of the cylinder 104 by a key 110, and supported on top of the extension by a nut 112 and washer 111. In its lowermost position the cylinder rotates on a thrust-bearing 133. Pressure fluid for raising the rakes attached to the shaft 90 is supplied via an annular space 132 in the piston, and holes 127a to the region 131. As the cylinder rises a sleeve 145 adjustably clamped to a rod 143 fixed to the cylinder head comes in contact with a switch 146a by which the pressure fluid supply is automatically cut off. The switch 146a may be shunted so that the automatic cut-off is actuated by switch 146b. , In order to drive the rake arms into the sludge the driving shaft in each case may be divided into two sections one section threading into the other, and the thread on the upper section spiralling reversely to the direction of drive. A limit stop is provided to prevent the two sections of the shaft from separating and to prevent the rake arms from striking the bottom of the tank.

摘要: 516,307. Agitating-apparatus. TRIGGS, W. W., (Dorr-Oliver, N. V.). July 7, 1938, No. 20200. [Class 86] [Also in Group I] Rotary stirrers or scrapers such as used in settling apparatus are driven through engaging members formed to permit relative rotation and displacement of the members upon an increase in the driving resistance to raise and permit the lowering of the stirrers or scrapers as the relative rotation continues. Fig. 1 shows a settling-tank with scrapers 4 on a shaft 2 to which a spider 18, Fig. 2, provided with rollers 19 is attached. The rollers engage an annular cam track 12 fixed to a worm-wheel 8 driven from a motor 7a by a worm 11. The cam track, as shown in developed form in Fig. 4, is provided with one or more humps and engagement of the rollers 19 with inclined portions 20 of the track causes rotation of the shaft 2. When the scrapers encounter increased resistance the rollers move up the inclines and the shaft and scrapers are raised to fall again as the rollers pass down slopes 22. To ensure a balanced drive the spider 18 is pivoted on the shaft 2. Fig. 6 shows one form of pivotal connection. A sleeve 24 surrounding the shaft has semi-cylindrical bearing surfaces which rest in trough-like recesses 29 in the spider. The shaft 2 can be raised manually relatively to the spider by means of a nut 32 on a threaded spindle 33 secured to the shaft by a pin 34, which normally rests on the top of the sleeve 24. Adjustable stops limiting the lifting movement may be fitted on the slopes 20 of the cam. Fig 9 shows an arrangement in which the drive stops when the torque exceeds a maximum. In this arrangement the hub of the spider is loose on the shaft and forms one half 38 of a clutch, the other half being formed on a sleeve 40, which rotates with the shaft. The shaft, is supported by a spring 43 which, at maximum torque is compressed so that the spider rises and the clutch is disengaged. In another arrangement the cam track is free to rotate relatively to the gear wheel but is normally moved therewith by spring-controlled pawls on the gear-wheel which are disengaged when the torque exceeds a maximum. The invention may be applied to apparatus in which the rotating blades or scrapers are supported by a cage surrounding a central pier in the tank. The pier 51, Fig. 13 supports a gear wheel 54 driven by a pinion 55 and carrying a cam track 12b. The cage carrying the blades or scrapers is supported by links 56 having rollers 19b moving on the track 12b. Cylindrical guide surfaces 57, 58 on the cage prevent the cage from tilting. The devices described may be provided with means to cushion the descent of the revolving parts. These may take the form of hydraulic rams arranged below the spider 18 and moving in cylinders formed on the gear wheel 8. The scraping blades may be of triangular section with an inclined face, so that, when permitted to descend freely into accumulated solid matter, they tend to move in the direction of their normal travel. Specifications 417,595 and 460,021 are referred to.

摘要: 399,297. Gravity-separation apparatus. DORR CO., Inc., 247, Park Avenue, New York, U.S.A. July 23, 1932, No. 20851. Convention date, Feb. 23. [Class 46.] A settling-tank 11, Fig. 1, is provided with a central column 20 which supports a rotatable drum or cage 18, to which sludge rakes 17 are attached, and a driving-motor 28. The column 20 may be hollow and serve for the supply of liquid to the tank, the liquid being delivered by a pipe 25 and distributed through slots 26 in the upper part of the column with which slots 27 in the drum register as the drum rotates. The motor rotates the drum 18 by means of speed-reducing gear, worm gear 35, 36, Fig. 4, a vertical shaft 37, a gear wheel 38 on the shaft 37 and a toothed ring 39, fixed to a flanged ring 40 attached to the drum. The motor is supported on framework 45 on the top of the column and the ring 40 rests on antifriction devices 61 on a flange 60 forming part of the framework. The shaft of the worm 35 may be free to move slightly in a longitudinal direction against the pressure of a spring, when the rakes meet exceptional resistance, and in doing so to actuate an indicator or alarm.
