Abstract:
Water filters which comprise a multitude of discrete filter media elements in a chamber require periodic cleaning. However, the elements tend to become adhered to one another and to the interior surface of the chamber. The invention provides a water filter for use with ponds, comprising a filter chamber for containing filter media, and a first movable cutting member provided substantially immediately adjacent the interior wall of the chamber for movement across the surface of the interior surface of the wall to break the adherence of filter media to the interior wall.
Abstract:
A stormwater treatment system includes water treatment media that defines a helical flow path within a conduit. The water treatment media may include a plurality of helical water treatment media components that are constructed and arranged to seal against an inside surface of the conduit. The individual helical water treatment media components may be installed in situ within the conduit when the conduit is positioned within a chamber having an access opening, and periodically removed and replaced by passing the components to the access opening. The components further may have a flexible frame, which allows the water treatment media to dynamically adjust to swelling of the filtration media and other forces that may occur during use. The performance of the system may be adjusted by adjusting the helical pitch of the helical water treatment media components.
Abstract:
A multi-faceted intake filter for an aquarium includes a top surface portion, a bottom surface portion and a plurality of side surface portions that collectively define a filter body is formed from a compressible foam. The intake filter also includes a bore that extends along a longitudinal axis of the filter body. The bore includes a first end exposed at the top surface portion that leads to a second end which terminates prior to the bottom surface portion. The bore is designed to receive an intake portion of an aquarium filter tube. Preferably, the bore is off-set from a central axis of the filter body. The off-set bore allows the intake filter to be placed in a wide range of aquarium configurations, with at least one of the side surface portions abutting a wall of the aquarium.
Abstract:
A filter apparatus connected a container, where the container includes a container neck and is filled with a filling material. The filter apparatus includes a filtrate riser tube in the container, which extends from the base region of the container to the container neck, a container connector head, which is fastened to the container neck and defines passages connected to a liquid inlet line and an inlet filter, and a connector unit with a sealing piston in the connector unit, which is arranged so as to be lowerable to connect the liquid inlet line to the filter material in the container and the filtrate riser tube to the filtrate outlet line.

Abstract:
A filter media backwash removal method and device for transporting backwash fluid and solids away from re-entering a housing containing circulating filter media.
Abstract:
An apparatus and method for filtering fluids with a multi-material filter media. Multi-component fibers where two or more materials are used in the same fiber to achieve desired physical characteristics, such as specific gravity, resilience, chemical resistance, stiffness and fiber diameter. Based on the particular application and fluid to be filtered, component materials provide desired performance characteristics such as specific particle size and/or specific pollutant removal capabilities and desired backwash cleaning characteristics.
Abstract:
An improved water filter assembly for use with an evaporative cooler pump, the filter comprising a cylindrical filter wall, a closed base and a neoprene curtain that covers the top but opens to receive the pump impeller.
Abstract:
A device and system for purifying a fluid is provided. The system includes a tank having an interior space and a media container disposed within the interior space. A valve is provided that cooperates with an element within the interior, the valve being movable between an open and a closed position. The valve being biased to the open position when the element is not positioned within the interior space, wherein the interior space is fluidly coupled to the atmosphere in the open position. The valve further being configured to move to a closed position when the element is positioned within the interior space.
