摘要: The present invention includes means for maintaining a printing element in its home position without any accompanying noise and for thereafter moving the carrier to its left margin position after the power switch is turned on. A latch member controlled by an actuator engages a notch in a flange of a rotating printing element drive gear for establishing the home position of the printing element. When the latch member engages the flange, the printing element drive gear motor is deenergized, stopping rotation of the drive gear, and the noise which would otherwise be caused by the print element drive motor continuously trying to rotate against the latch member is eliminated.

摘要: An apparatus for confirming the correct impression of printing characters wherein any of the characters arranged in at least one line circumferentially extending on the peripheral surface of a cylindrical printing drum is designated by controlling the operation of the printing drum to be brought to a prescribed printing position on the surface of the recording medium for printing and the printing drum can be moved in the axial direction, and which comprises a detector for detecting a circumferential angle defined by the position of the selected one of said linearly arranged characters with a point of referential angle provided on the rotating printing drum; a counter for counting signals denoting the steps of the rotation of said printing drum required for said selected character to take a desired printing position; and a comparison circuit for comparing a number of rotation steps required for the printing drum to return to the point of a referential angle after impression of one line of characters on a recording medium is brought to an end and a number of rotation steps required for the printing drum to run through a circumferential angle defined by the position of the terminal character of the respective lines impressed on the recording medium with the referential angle point, thereby finding an error, if any, occurring in impressing the respective lines on the recording medium.

摘要: A system and method are disclosed for automatically detecting any defective elements in a linear array of thermal printhead elements of a thermal printer and for automatically correcting for at least one defective thermal printhead element. In a preferred embodiment of the invention an ON/OFF line from a microprocessor is turned OFF to turn off a voltage regulator, thereby preventing the thermal printhead elements from printing. With the voltage regulator OFF, a diode is forward biased to enable a voltage divider to be formed between a sensing resistor and any one of the thermal printhead elements that is activated at any given time. When a subsequent sense voltage (or resistance measurement) of an element exceeds the value of the initial reference sense voltage for that by a predetermined amount, that element is detected as a defective element. A software subroutine, in the microprocessor is then utilized to change the position of serial data bits carrying data to be printed such that the detected defective thermal element is not utilized during a normal printing operation.

摘要: A printing apparatus comprising a print wheel having a multiplicity type elements, and a detecting unit for detecting angular positions of the print wheel including its fixed home position. The apparatus further comprises a control unit which includes a first counter which stores data representative of an angular distance of a type element currently located at the printing position as measured from the home position, and a second counter which stores data representative of an angular position of a type element designated by a print signal. Both counters are operated as they receive position signals from the detecting unit. The control unit is so arranged that in the event of an unexpected rotation of a wheel driving rotary shaft which is not a result of the actuation of a wheel driving motor in response to the print signal, the print wheel is first reset to the home position before it is rotated to bring a designated type element to the printing position, whereby chances for printing errors due to such unexpected rotation are eliminated. A method for controlling to prevent the printing errors is also disclosed.

If the wheel round detection signal (.beta.) is not developed at a preselected timing, the print control circuit learns an erroneous printing operation, and functions to conduct a corrected printing operation.

摘要: In a printwheel type of printer using a selection stepper motor for driving the printwheel, means are provided for performing printwheel homing operation upon occurrence of predetermined events. Such an event, is detected and reported to microprocessor means which drive motion means for bringing the printer carriage assembly to a first extreme left position where a stop element fixed relative to the printwheel rotation is made to enter the path of another stop element attached to rotate with the printwheel. Subsequently, the selection stepper motor driving the printwheel is driven for a number of steps at least equal to one motor revolution to ensure reaching inhibition of the printwheel rotation by bringing the rotating stop element into contact with the relatively fixed stop element. The carriage is then moved back to the left margin writing position where the relatively fixed stop element is withdrawn from the path of the other stop element and the angular printwheel home position is noted and stored by the microprocessor means.
