    Abstract: A tire pressure monitoring device and system includes a support or housing mounted to a rim of a wheel of a vehicle. A casing is movably secured to the support and a pair of spaced magnets are disposed within the casing. The casing is collapsible for varying the length of the casing in response to changes in the tire pressure to move the magnets relative to each other. A sensor is mounted a distance from the casing for sensing a presence of each of the magnets. A controller is in communication with the sensor to determine the length of the casing and the relative movement between the magnets to calculate any changes in tire pressure.

    Abstract: A vehicle tire pressure monitoring system and method is provided, the system including a tire pressure transducer affixed to either the tire or wheel of a vehicle. An electromagnet system is in electrical communication with the tire pressure transducer, the electromagnet system configured to generate pulses and transfer a single bit of data to a sensor system on the vehicle body upon each revolution of the tire or wheel. The sensor system in turn transfers the received bits to an electronic control unit wherein the code is converted into a read out for the vehicle operator. One or more bits within the code may be redundant checking bits or bits representing the status of the pressure transducer or electromagnet system.

    Abstract: A tire condition monitoring apparatus that improves data communication accuracy. Permanent magnets are fixed to the wheel well. A transmitter fixed to a tire includes a pressure sensor for detecting the air pressure of the tire and an MI sensor for detecting magnetic fields generated by the permanent magnets. As the tire rotates, the positions of the permanent magnets relative to the MI sensor change. Thus, the intensity of the magnetic field acting on the MI sensor changes. The transmitter determines the rotation angle of the tire based on the detection of the MI sensor. When the rotation angle of the tire is in a range optimal for wireless communication, the transmitter transmits the air pressure data generated by the pressure sensor.

    Abstract: The pneumatic pressure in a tire on a wheel of a vehicle is introduced into a pressure chamber positioned at a central axis about which the tire is rotatable through a communication passage defined in the wheel. When the pneumatic pressure in the pressure chamber varies, a diaphragm or bellows attached over the pressure chamber is elastically displaced, axially moving a slide bar extending axially through a wheel shaft on which the wheel is supported. The movement of the slide bar displaces a ferromagnetic member in a coil, whose inductance then varies. The change in the coil inductance is detected by an electronic control unit, which transmits a signal to a display unit.
