摘要: The invention relates to a finkeel (2) for boats, having of a fixed part (3) attached to the hull (1) and a movable part comprising two leeboards (4, 5) that can be orientated in an independent manner. According to the invention, each leeboard (4, 5) consists of at least one upper element (4a, 5a) hinged to the fixed part (3) of the finkeel and a lower element (4b, 5b) hinged to the upper element, so that the leeboards can be folded up towards the fixed part (3) of the finkeel, to achieve lateral overall dimensions smaller than the width of the hull.

摘要: A canting ballast twin foil (CBTF) sailing yacht constructed according to the invention includes a sailing hull, a ballast, a ballast-supporting structure, and an onboard ballast drive system. The ballast drive system moves the ballast in order to vary the counter-heeling force it produces underway. Twin foils that depend downwardly from the hull in positions fore and aft of the ballast provide leeway and steering control. An onboard main engine drive system provides power, either directly by suitable mechanical coupling or indirectly through charging of the battery/electric system, for one or more of a canting system, a leeway, and/or steering control system. The onboard main engine drive system may also power a yacht-propelling propeller.

摘要: The present invention is a device mounted on a watercraft that creates a method of systematic weight distribution, which modifies a vessel's wake as it travels through water. The device uses systematically moveable ballast object(s) that are supported in a variety of positions along a specified path. As a ballast object is selectively moved towards a specific extremity of a watercraft, it causes that side or end to sink deeper in the water, and raises the opposing side or end, thus controlling or influencing the vessel's relative position on a body of water. When the watercraft is operating at higher speeds, the invention's ability to control the vessels' position allows an operator to selectively control the shape, size and slope of the watercraft's wake, as referenced in the disclosed method.

摘要: In operation for wave avoidance the WAY presents only a small profile and a small part of its total structure to the most dynamically active part of all ocean waves, their surface and crests. This includes all storm and rogue waves. In this mode the bulk of the vessel is distributed through lower more quiescent water and spans differentiated deep wave effect. In this mode the WAY has low above surface reserve buoyancy-able-to-induce unwanted motion. In wave avoidance mode when not underway, the WAY is stabilized by low reserve buoyancy of its wave piercing causeways (12). Underway the WAY behaves as a small wing effect hydrodynamic flying body and does not rely upon wings or hydrofoils which receive undesirable acceleration forces and motion from deep wave effect. Flight path is controlled by orientation which is controlled by a large separation between center of buoyancy and a purposefully moveable center of mass. A default trajectory is enabled where a small hydrodynamic lift is countered by small unbuoyed mass. A WAY has a surface or shallow water mode of operation. The word yacht in the title is to suggest a preferred embodiment of size lying between boat and ship; a size that in conventional vessels is subject to particularly nauseating sea motion. The WAY can be configured for passage making with internal motors and without sails.

摘要: A ballast system for a sailing boat includes an elongate body having a first end and a second end. A mounting is provided at the first end of the elongate body for suspending the elongate body from a hull of a sailing boat. A ballast weight is positioned at the second end of the elongate body. A motor and gear assembly are provided for moving the second end of the elongate body relative to the hull of the sailing boat. The described ballast system decreases the amount of ballast weight required without sacrificing the safety of operation of the sail boat. The decrease in ballast weight, decreases the over all displacement of the sail boat, and permits increased speed.

摘要: A boat including a hull having a deck and bottom, a sail carrying mast, and a keel structure, with the mast and keel being pivotally supported from the hull and so operatively connected by hydraulic or mechanical means that when the boat is wind driven the mast may tilt to port or starboard with concurrent pivoting of the keel structure in an opposite direction. Pivoting of the mast and keel structure is independent of the hull, and the hull remaining in a non-heeling position when the boat is wind driven at a substantial rate. The mast when used on a small boat may be provided with a break away section adjacent the pivotal support therefor, and as a result the mast and supported sail will break away and fall to the side of the boat if the latter is caught in a squall or sudden heavy gust of wind, rather than the boat being overturned.
