The apparatus can be used for the wrapping of a fiber bundle with a film, having a receiver of first and second side elements and a flexible channel fastened between them for the reception of the film and the fiber bundle. A drive is provided to move at least the first side element transversely to the channel, and at least one folding device movable transversely to the channel for the folding of the film around the fiber bundle.

The system (50) includes a plurality of wire reels (52) from which a measured length of a selected wire (114) is coiled at a coiling assembly (60). Each of the plurality of wires (54) are arranged in spaced-apart planar array across a wire select assembly (56). A control (82) selects one of the wires for coiling based upon a programmed work schedule. The end selected wire is drawn from a sensor assembly (88) on the wire select assembly by a wire feed assembly (58) and transferred to the coiling assembly. The coiling assembly winds the selected wire into a coil (402), at either a seven- or ten-inch (inside) diameter. Pinch marks previously applied to the wire or a length sensor (122) determine when a required length of the wire has been coiled. The coiled wire is then lifted from the coiling assembly by a pick and place assembly (66) and moved to one of two wire tying machines (61/62), where a tie is applied to the coiled wire so that it can be stacked on a pallet (400). A conveyor (70) conveys the pallets to an operator workstation (72) where the coiled wires are assembled into wire groups needed to make wire bundles.

摘要： A rewind spindle has a bearing defining a rotation axis and a main rod supported on the bearing for rotation about the axis and having an outer face forming a part-cylindrical outer surface centered on the axis and extending angularly at most about 180.degree. of the axis and an inner face lying wholly within an imaginary cylinder centered on the axis and coextensive with the outer surface. This inner face has a lower end forming an axially directed seat and an upper end. A filler rod has a lower end complementarily interfittable with the seat, an axially opposite upper end, a part-cylindrical outer surface of the same radius of curvature as the imaginary cylinder and outer surface of the main rod, and an inner face. This filler rod is displaceable when its lower end is fitted on the seat between an outer position with its outer surface coaxial with the outer surface of the main rod and lying on the imaginary cylinder and an inner position with its outer surface lying within the imaginary cylinder of the outer surface of the main rod. A link is engageable between the opposite end of the filler rod and the main rod for releasably retaining the filler rod in the outer position. Thus after winding a web up on the spindle with the filler rod retained in the outer position, the spindle can be collapsed for removal of the wound-up web by releasing the filler rod and moving same into its inner position.
