    摘要: An improved control system for a fuel dispenser solves the problems of the prior art by enabling processing of prepaid fuel discount cards that discount only the wholesale price component of the per unit retail fuel price. The control system recalculates the per unit retail price based upon the applied discount. Upon purchase of the prepaid fuel discount card, a snapshot of the wholesale price components is taken of all fuel dispensers in a region and locked in for the purchaser at the time of purchase of the prepaid discount fuel card. A central server performs “back office” processing and recalculates the retail per unit price of fuel at the time of delivery of the fuel based upon a discount applied to the per unit wholesale price component for the fuel dispenser location where the fuel is being delivered. With the novel system disclosed herein, the wholesaler can control the amount of the discounts applied to the retail unit price of fuel. The system enables the wholesaler to create an elastic demand for the fuel and regain customer loyalty for fuel credit cards. Initially the purchaser deposits an initial amount of money in the account. The average weighted wholesale price per gallon is determined after each deposit is made. The average weighted wholesale price is used to pay for delivery of gasoline.

    摘要: A system and method for the rapid configuration and connection of a backup controller in a distributed data network such as an automated fuel distribution network. Each service-station site in the network has a site controller that supervises operations of the site components, such as the fuel dispenser and credit-card reader, communicating with them through an on-site router, or hub. The fuel-distribution site also communicates with the central network controller through the same hub. In the event of a site-controller outage, one of several spare controllers, usually co-located with the network controller, is loaded and configured to function as the site controller. It is then placed in communication with the site components via a data-network connection, such as through the Internet. The hub switches communications protocols from serial data to packets suitable for Internet communications.

    摘要: A liquid fuel pump nozzle (11) carries an optical bar code reader (20). A vehicle fuel reservoir has an entry port (10) provided with an optical bar decode strip (14) having bars (15) extending circumferentially of the port so that the bars are axially spaced. The reader thus reads the optical code during receiving movement of the nozzle into the entry port. The data reader and data provider may both be data transceivers. A comparator (44) compares data from the reader (20,40) with data from a data source (49), and optionally also with data from a credit card security system (56) to determine whether that vehicle is authorized to receive fuel, and an interlock (50) connected to the comparator to prevent fuel delivery in the absence of a signal from the comparator.
