摘要: A process for stably and efficiently producing quality glass articles such as preforms at high yields, and a process for producing an optical device from the preform obtained by the above process. In the process for producing a glass article, molten glass gobs having a predetermined weight each are poured, or molten glass drops having a predetermined weight each are dropped through a nozzle, into a boiling liquid having a boiling point lower than the class transition temperature of the glass constituting said glass article or a liquid which is temperature-adjusted beforehand so as to be caused to boil by the amount of heat of the glass, to form glass articles.

摘要: An apparatus for converting molten glass containing radioactive waste into molded pellets or spheres comprising means for generating a flowing stream of the molten glass and a rotating wheel disposed beneath the flowing stream. The wheel is preferably mounted for rotation about a horizontal axis and has a series of mold cavities formed in the circumferential wall of the wheel, into which cavities the stream is directed by gravity. The mold cavities have flared side walls so that when the stream strikes the inclined wall it is deflected toward the center of the cavity through a focal point. The side walls of adjacent mold cavities form a knife edge at the surface of the wheel to preclude the bridging of glass from one cavity to another.

摘要: Disclosed herein is a glass whose viscosity index (A) defined as a value obtained by dividing the viscosity of the glass at the liquidus temperature thereof by the liquidus temperature of the glass is in the range of 0.0004 to 1.5. Such a glass is melted in a melting furnace equipped with a nozzle, and the molten glass is dropped from the nozzle intermittently and regularly to obtain glass droplets. The glass droplet naturally dropped from the nozzle is received by a receiving mold to form a glass gob. The glass gob can be used as a preform for reheating molding. Further, it is possible to produce an optical glass element having no plane defect such as a shear mark by press-molding a hot glass gob with an upper mold just after the glass gob is received by the receiving mold.
