摘要:
A process for melting at least one mineral material in powder form includes using at least one laser beam (12) for supplying the energy necessary to the melting, and gradually supplying mineral powder to a zone (10) that is impacted by the laser beam(s) so as to obtain the largest surface possible for interaction between the material and the laser beam(s).

A process for stably and efficiently producing quality glass articles such as preforms at high yields, and a process for producing an optical device from the preform obtained by the above process. In the process for producing a glass article, molten glass gobs having a predetermined weight each are poured, or molten glass drops having a predetermined weight each are dropped through a nozzle, into a boiling liquid having a boiling point lower than the class transition temperature of the glass constituting said glass article or a liquid which is temperature-adjusted beforehand so as to be caused to boil by the amount of heat of the glass, to form glass articles.

Methods for making glasses and glass-ceramics comprising Al2O3 and SiO2. Glasses made according to the present invention can be made, formed as, or converted into glass beads, articles (e.g., plates), fibers, particles, and thin coatings. Some embodiments of glass-ceramic particles made according to the present invention can be are particularly useful as abrasive particles.

An enclosure for slag pelletizers, and a method of operating such an enclosure, that minimizes the escape into the ambient atmosphere of airborne fibres produced by the pelletization process, while permitting the necessary free passage of the steam and gases that are also produced. The enclosure roof consists of at least one layer of wire mesh and a system of overlapping baffles is provided beneath the roof at least above the pelletizer to intercept the particulate material, so that the pellets do not disrupt a blanket of the fibre which is allowed to accumulate on the wire mesh to facilitate removal of the remainder of the fibre from the air stream. The method allows the deposition of an effective blanket, while preventing the deposition of too much fibre, so that the gas stream is diverted and flows out of the open end of the enclosure. A first plurality of water-mist producing nozzles is disposed between the mesh roof and the baffles, while a second plurality is disposed above the mesh roof both delivering a fine mist of water to wet fine particulate, causing it to deposit. A plurality of water-jet producing nozzles are disposed above the roof and delivers jets of water to wash the deposited particulate from the roof and baffle system down into the enclosure interior as and when required.

A receiver for waste molten glass, which automatically dumps the glass as cullet in lump or fragment form. The receiver comprises primarily a hopper or bin, with a central partition which divides the hopper into two compartments. The hopper or bin is pivotally mounted for reciprocating pivotal movement about a horizontal line in the plane of the partition such that the compartments formed on either side of the partition are alternately faced upwardly to receive molten glass and cooling water. Molten glass gobs, thus cooled, and water weight that side of the hopper in which they are received, thus causing it to pivot downwardly and thereby to dump cooled cullet in lump form while the alternative compartment is faced upwardly to receive subsequently poured waste molten glass and water until the weight of material in that compartment causes reverse pivotal movement and dumping. The hopper is triangular in vertical cross section, as are the partitioned compartments thereof.

The apparatus is intended for processing partly solidified slags transported in ladles out of smelting shop and also for processing slags directly besides blast furnaces and steel-making units (e.g. converters). The apparatus comprises a settling bin provided at its inlet with a water-jet granulator. The settling bin incorporates an elevator with perforated buckets for discharging granulated slag. Elevator pulley shafts are located above the level of water in the bin, the head pulley (the furthest from the granulating compartment) is placed higher than the tail pulley (the nearest to the granulating compartment). A drier is provided at the place of discharge of granulated slag from the settling bin.The settling bin is of a sealed design and is divided by a partition into two compartments, one of which is intended for granulating molten slag, and the other, for discharging granulated slag from the bin by the elevator. A constant level of water in the bin is ensured by an overflow partition. The drier means is a rotary drum drier whose discharge end is provided with a fan and a rotary feeder for discharging dry granulated slag onto belt conveyors for transportation to consumers.
