摘要: A composting method is disclosed for accelerated decomposition of organic matter. The organic matter is deposited into a chamber of a vessel. A ram moves through a relatively short stroke within one end of the vessel so that organic matter deposited in the vessel at one end may be moved through the chamber and discharged at the other end as a result of each successive charge of matter pushing the preceding charge forward through the vessel by the action of the ram. An optimum range of compaction density for the particular organic matter being processed is determined. Also, an angle of disposition for the vessel relative to the horizontal is established for the particular organic matter being processed. This angle of disposition is established so as to cause the amount of compressive force necessary to move the organic matter through the vessel to be such as to achieve the optimum range of compaction density. That is, the angular disposition resulting from the determining and establishing steps influences the relative ease with which organic matter will slide through the chamber of the vessel to, in turn, control the compaction density for the particular organic matter being processed so that such compaction density will fall within the optimum range.

摘要: A method and apparatus for treating biodegradable solid urban waste materials and selecting those non biodegradable components for recycling comprises a tunnel (1) made of steel defining an inner room or ambient of parallelepiped shape, having a rear hinge door (4) associated with adjustable counterbalance weight (5). Near the door (4) blade kneading devices (6) can be installed. In the last portion of the bottom wall of the tunnel (1) holes (7) are arranged, positioned just over a channel (3) connected to a recovering tank (22) of the percolate. At the other front end of the tunnel a moving wall (9) is mounted, capable of being moved to and fro along two rails (10) by means of hydraulic jacks (12). In the center of the wall (9) a hydraulic cylinder (31, 31a, 31b) is anchored, the piston rod (31a) which enters into the iner chamber of the tunnel (1) for compressing the waste mass. Near the upper wall (32) of the tunnel (1), there is a circulating forced air pre-chamber (13) having a grating structure. Parallel to the pre-chamber (13), there are two perforated pipes (33, 33a) into which are periodically conveyed percolation liquids. In the upper wall (32) at least one opening (20), closed by a cover, is arranged for charging waste materials to be treated. On the same wall (32), there are also installed discharge vertical pipes (18) for the discharge of biogases, communicating with the pre-chamber (13).

摘要: A method of continuous composting is carried out in a train of composting trays in an elongate enclosed tunnel. Garbage is deposited into the composting tunnel via a blending trough in which blending augers blend the garbage. The trough then tilts to empty the garbage into an inlet in the top surface of the tunnel to fill an upstream one of the trays. A ram shunts the trays stepwise through the tunnel. The tracks may be U-channels, the webs of which are connected to tunnel sidewalls. The trays rest on one of the legs of the U and the other leg of the U extends over the edge of the tray to protect it from being fouled by garbage. During passage of the trays through the tunnel, the garbage may be mixed by mixers for loosening and aeration of the garbage. Such mixing may have directional components in both longitudinal and transverse directions of the tunnel. Water may be added immediately downstream of the mixing for the purpose of optimizing composting conditions. The water may be added into spray curtains from spaced apart spray bars above and immediately downstream of the mixers. The invention also includes a continuous composter having an blending trough for blending the garbage and for tilting so that the blended garbage falls into an upstream tray.

摘要: A plug-flow composting reactor including a longitudinal hollow chamber having a floor, a pair of oppositely disposed side walls, and a top wall. The reactor preferably includes an entrance structure and an exit structure mounted at opposite ends of the hollow chamber to thereby substantially close the reactor when desired. The floor of the chamber further includes a plurality of longitudinal slats slidably mounted for longitudinal reciprocation relative the side and top walls. The slats are located in parallel relationship to one another along the chamber, with adjacent slats preferably laterally spaced from one another by interposed aeration conduits. These aeration conduits provide aeration gases to the organic matter within the reactor. Vents for exhausting the aeration gases from the chamber are provided to ensure a predetermined flow of such gases through the chamber. Fluid pressure driven reciprocation cylinders are preferably provided to selectively, longitudinally reciprocate the adjacent slats within the chamber to thereby impose movement of organic matter through the reactor without substantially longitudinally compressing the same.

摘要: A process for aerobic composting or drying of organic waste materials in a composting bin and apparatus for carrying out the process. The composting bin is formed by one or more elongate composting passageway chambers which can be aerated or vented and heated. Each chamber encloses in sequence an intake zone, shaping zone, reaction zone, and discharge or transfer zone. Material is fed loosely through an opening into the intake zone in successive substantially equal portions or charges. A clearing element at the intake end of the chamber intermittently pushes each successive portion through the shaping zone, against the preceding portion, and through the reaction zone of the chamber. Residence time in the compost bin is sufficient for complete composting or other purposes before discharge or transfer. In the case of a bin with two or more chambers the chambers are arranged at different levels one below the other. The bins are oppositely oriented so that the transfer of material from an upper bin feeds material to the intake zone and the steps are repeated to completion of decomposition. For automatic process control the reaction zone is divided into separate sections for separate venting and analysis of reaction gases by section. Separate control of aeration and heating by section is also provided in response to the gas analysis thereby provided selective optimim conditions for completion of aerobic decomposition.
