A novel lipomelanin sunscreen complex includes melanin linked to a lipid to form a lipomelanin. One or more ultra-violet-light absorbing compounds can be added to form a lipomelanin sunscreen complex. A method for making the complex includes the oxidization of DOPA in the presence of a lipid and one or more ultra-violet absorbing compounds to form a mixture and precipitating the complex from the mixture by the addition of acid. The lipomelanin sunscreen complex provides protection against harmful ultra-violet radiation. The level of UV protection may be varied according to the presence and properties of the ultra-violet absorbing compounds in the complex.

Specifically, it provides a functional film containing a melanin of which the alteration is improved and which is excellent in the property for protecting eyes from ultraviolet rays, and in its method for production.The method for producing a melanin of the present invention, comprises, at least, under controlled conditions, a step for an oxidative reaction wherein a melanin precursor is continuously oxidized while the mole ratio of the melanin precursor relative to the oxidative agent is maintained at a constant ratio, and a step for precipitation wherein a melanin is precipitated by acidifying a reaction solution after the step for an oxidative reaction.

The present invention relates to a method for the preparation of a melanic pigment by enzymatic bioconversion, implementing a melanin precursor substrate and plant cells, characterized in that: (a) poppy (Papaver somniferum) plant cells previously cultivated are separated from their culture medium and subcultured in a culture medium with a concentration from 10 to 100 g/l; (b) the cells are ground at least partially, before or at the end of the latency time, (c) the at least partially ground cells are placed in a bioconversion medium in the presence with a melanin precursor substrate selected amoung indol, indolin, dihydroxyphenylalanin, tyramin and tyrosin; (d) the precipitated melanic pigment is collected. The invention also relates to the utilization of such resulting pigments for the preparation of cosmetic compositions.
