The outer layer is thinner and harder than the inner layer and is embodied as an endless belt (1) which loosely surrounds the inner layer such that the belt can be displaced in relation to the inner layer. In order to improve the running of the belt, the belt is guided over a deflector rail (2), the cross-sectional area (u) of the rail being wider than the average staple length of the fibre material (F) drawn on the drawing roller frame. Both rollers are mounted in the housing (1), whereby one roller (5) is mounted rigid or essentially only movable in the housing (1) in the plane (7) formed by the two axles of the rollers (4, 5). The other roller (4), by contrast, is mounted so as to be movable in the housing (1) in such a way that the nip or grip line (6) can thereby be moved. A demountable subassembly is provided for a series of compacting units of adjacent spinning stations. The subassembly includes a transverse tube with a series of longitudinal suction slots and a suction manifold connectable to the tube in the region of a central opening thereof and having first locking seats on opposite sides of the manifold. Two stopper-like locking elements are mounted at the ends of the tube with each having a second locking seat and two tensioning units are provided to be locked along the tube on opposite sides of the manifold. Each tensioning unit includes a plurality of tensioners for a corresponding plurality of flexible filter loops circulating about the tube over the slots, and tabs at the ends of each tensioning unit for locking in a first locking seat of the manifold and in a second locking seat of one of the stopper-like elements.

The sliver compactor has a shielding element juxtaposed with the perforated moving surface to which suction is applied and which reduces the suction force required to draw the fibers of the sliver into a compact form. The shielding element extends over a plurality of slivers and the respective spinning stations and a number of such shielding elements may be aligned over the length of the machine below the stretching field plane and secured on the machine frame.

An apron drafting system for textile fibers includes a pair of front rolls, a pair of middle rolls, and a pair of back rolls defining front and back drafting zones therebetween. A cradle, including a pair of side plates, is mounted on both of said middle rolls and extends towards both said front rolls and said back rolls to support a pair of front apron pins adjacent the front rolls and a pair of back aprons pins adjacent the back rolls. Top and bottom aprons extend over the middle rolls and over the apron pins adjacent both the front and back rolls to make adjacent contact to guide the textile fibers from a point immediately adjacent the back rolls, through the nip between the middle rolls, to a point adjacent the front rolls. The cradle also includes a pair of platform members, one in the front drafting zone and another in the back drafting zone, which serve to deflect the top and bottom aprons where they are in abutting contact out of the normal path between the rolls to provide improved control over the textile fibers while in the drafting zones.
