A yarn storing and delivering device for a weaving machine includes a stationary base body and a hollow shaft which is rotatably mounted in the base body and which carries a laterally projecting yarn feeder element. Yarn is guided into the hollow shaft and wound by the yarn feeder element onto a storing surface of a storing drum which is maintained stationary relative to the base body. The yarn is axially withdrawn from the storing drum over a free edge of the storing surface and through a substantially central guide opening. A threading device equipped with air jet nozzles is provided for automatically threading the yarn up to a location within the guide opening. The threading device includes a compressed air conveying system disposed between the guide opening and a location adjacent the outlet of the yarn feeder element. The compressed air conveying system includes a plurality of stationary directional jet nozzles which, when activated, provide an air flow which delivers the yarn to the guide opening.

The apparatus comprises a drum having an axial central hole and a rotating arm drawing the yarn off from the spool and winding it up as windings on the drum, from which the yarn is then drawn off through the central hole. The displacement of the yarn windings along the drum surface is carried out by swinging blades alternatively projecting and moving upwardly through grooves provided on the drum. These blades keep the yarn windings separated from one another during translation on the drum, each of the windings being arranged between two successive blades. A bell is located at the top of the drum and brakes the balloon built up by the yarn drawn off from the drum, while flexible fingers act upon the drawn off yarn, controlling the tension thereof.

The unwinding brake further has a braking component supported on the counter-braking surface axially counter to the direction of yarn unwinding so as to produce spring action and having a coaxial braking surface also continuous in the peripheral direction. The yarn feeder also has a mounting for the braking component, and a pneumatic brake opening device which has a pressure chamber with a pneumatically loadable, axially movable boundary wall. The boundary wall is connected to the braking component so as to transmit movement at least in the direction of movement thereof counter to the action of the spring. When the boundary wall is pressurised by excess pressure or a vacuum, the braking component can be moved axially into a threading position in which the braking surface is lifted from the counter-braking surface.

A controllable output brake for a thread feed device includes actuating elements that are connected to a control member and are used for effecting a controlled displacement of a thread brake element. The controlled displacement is an axial play with which a supporting ring for the thread brake element is supported in a holding member. The controlled displacement is used for controlling the tension of a thread. In the case of such a thread feed device, a push drive connected to the holding member is provided for each direction of movement in which the thread brake element is adjusted. The push drive for at least one direction of movement is a pneumatic push drive connected to a pneumatic drive control unit. In a projectile weaving machine, the controlled output brake is disengaged and re-engaged approximately in synchronism with a controlled thread brake which is provided as well. The engagement is preferably carried out in advance of the engagement of the controlled thread brake. In a gripper weaving machine, the controlled output brake is disengaged and re-engaged several times during each picking operation.

The feeder includes a drum non-rotatably supported by a drum shaft, a driving section connected to the drum shaft, a flyer wrapping warp around the drum, the flyer being supported by and rotatable with the drum shaft, a warp sensor pivotably supported in one of a plurality of slits formed in the drum, at least one supporting member eccentrically movable and slantable with respect to the drum shaft, and at least one carrier born by the at least one supporting member and guided by the plurality of slits respectively to be movable in both an axial direction and in a radial direction. The flyer transport the warp wound about the drum in the axial direction with the supporting member rotatably mounted on the drum shaft. A dial having a cam-like slant surface is attached to the drum shaft so as to enable a inclination angle adjustment of the slant surface. By the adjustment of the dial, the supporting member is inclined. This facilitates pitch adjustment of the feeder without the necessity of disassembling the unit. The sensor member can be operated with a very slight touch, giving a more sensitive sensor. Thus a clutch for preventing reverse rotation is provided between the driving section and the flyer, making it possible to prevent reverse rotation of the motor due to the tension of the warp, exerted when the flyer is stopped. This prevents the application of torsion upon the warp and the degrading thereof of the warp.
