In a multi-phase weaving machine, an apparatus (16) for monitoring warp yarn movement (3a, 3b) in particular leno warp yarns. The drawing-off movement or the drawing-off speed of the warp yarns (3a, 3b) can be detected by an electronic sensor (6a, 6b; 6c) so that it can in particular be determined whether the drawing-off movement or the drawing-off speed has a very low or relatively large value. If the value is very low, in particular when the warp yarn is standing still while the weaving process is running, it can be concluded that the warp yarn has broken. If the value of the drawing-off speed lies above a preset threshold value it can be concluded that the warp yarn is being driven in an undesired manner so that an error signal (13) is produced in order to interrupt the weaving process.

A device for detecting break of any of a plurality of yarns arranged closely to each other in a spinning or weaving machine such as loom, knitting machine, warping machine, etc., includes sensor electrodes disposed in correspondence to the respective yarns, high-input-resistance amplifiers, separators and a logic circuit, in which each yarn is let runs between adjacent separators. When any of the yarns is caused to stop running due to trouble such as a break, the output of the corresponding high-input resistance amplifier becomes high in potential and a signal is issued to the output of the logic circuit to thereby stop the machine while giving an alarm.

An apparatus for the supervision of fibrous webs, or other sheet-like material, particularly within the textile and paper industries, with the purpose of detecting faults in webs. An emitter is positioned at one side of the web and arranged to give off a beam of light essentially at right angles to the web extension. A receiver, positioned at the opposite side of the web, receives the beam of light. In accordance with the invention, the beam is imparted a particular movement covering an area of the web where faults are likely to arise and the immediate vicinity of said area. Evaluation means register any disturbances and compare them with a predetermined value, and upon excess of said predetermined value an impulse is emitted to a warning and/or stopping mechanism.
