Abstract:
A method for manufacturing a rope structure comprising providing, around a first roller and a second roller, a loop including a plurality of twisted strands. The method further comprising feeding a plurality of body strands onto the loop, feeding including, with the plurality of body strands connected to the loop, moving the loop about the first roller and the second roller to cause the body strands to lay and be twisted on the plurality of twisted strands.
Abstract:
A mooring loop is provided for use with connecting a mooring line to a bollard. The mooring loop may stretch and function as a time delay fuse when excessive loads are applied to the mooring line. The mooring loop is comprised of a reactive fiber component in the shape of a continuous loop that includes a plurality of at least one of: an undrawn hydrophobic polymer fiber or a substantially undrawn hydrophobic polymer fiber. At least two jackets are in surrounding relation to portions of the reactive fiber component. The at least two jackets include respective end portions which overlap. As the mooring loop stretches, a visual indicator on an end portion of one of the jackets pulls out of and away from the end portion of the other one of the jackets. The visual indicator serves as a warning that excessive loads are being applied to the mooring line.
Abstract:
A system and method for actively damping tension members modulates the natural frequency of shape memory alloys incorporated into tension members, such as suspension ropes or cables. The frequency of the tension member can be modulated by heating the shape memory alloy, such modulation preventing potentially destructive resonance with natural exciting forces.
Abstract:
A rope structure comprising a plurality of fibers combined to form a plurality of yarns which are in turn combined to form a plurality of strands. The plurality of strands are combined using a single braid process to form the rope structure defining a void space. At least one of the fibers, the yarns, and the strands are configured substantially to reduce a volume of the void space and thereby maintain a shape of the rope structure when the rope structure is under load.
Abstract:
A securing device is provided comprised of a reactive fiber component and at least one of a terminating fiber component and an initiating fiber component. The reactive fiber component includes at least one of the following: an undrawn polymer fiber and a substantially undrawn polymer fiber, wherein the first reactive fiber component is operative to stretch responsive to a load. The terminating fiber component is in a compressed state and is operative to elongate to a length at which the terminating fiber component is operative to prevent further stretching of the first reactive fiber component responsive to the load. The initiating fiber component is operative to break responsive to a predetermined force and permit the first reactive fiber component to stretch responsive to the load.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a rope containing a plurality of stands comprising a mixture of high-performance poly-ethylene fibres and polytetraflooroethylene fibres in a mass ratio of 70:30 to 98:2. The rope shows markedly improved service life performance in cyclic bend-over-sheave applications. The invention also relates to the use of said rope as a load-bearing member in bend-over-sheave applications.
Abstract:
A composite bundle for repeated stress applications comprising at least one fiber of a high strength material, at least one fiber of fluoropolymer, wherein the fluoropolymer fiber is present in an amount of about 40% by weight or less.

Abstract:
A rope comprising a plurality of bundle groups, each of said bundle groups having a periphery and comprising a plurality of high strength fibers, at least one low coefficient of friction fiber disposed around at least a portion of the periphery of at least one of the bundle groups.
