摘要: The properties of nonwoven glass fiber and nonwoven polymer fiber are combined efficaciously in a composite web that comprises two component webs of particular composition. One of the component webs is formed by screen casting, squeezing, and drying an aqueous dispersion of glass fiber, thermoplastic fiber, and a hydrophilic polymer so that temporary adhesion bonding occurs. The other of the component webs is formed by orienting textile polymer fiber and thermoplastic fiber so that temporary matting occurs. The composite web is formed by superposing and calendering the component webs under heat and pressure so that fusion bonding of the thermoplastic fiber occurs within each and between both of the component webs. As a result, the glass fiber and textile fiber are predeterminedly locked and the properties of both are predeterminedly available.

摘要: Fibers are air laid on a twin-wire machine to form a composite pad. A pair of endless foraminous carriers are passed through a forming chamber where fibers suspended in air are directed between the carriers. A layer of fibers is built up on each of the carriers by applying pressure differential across the carriers in the chamber to force air from the suspension through the carriers. In one form of the invention the air is directed through the respective carriers in different patterns to form a respective fiber layers of different cross section. The carriers converge within the chamber in their direction of motion to join the facing surfaces of the respective layers to form a composite pad of non-uniform cross section. According to one aspect of the invention, excess fibers are removed from the facing surfaces just prior to their being joined.

摘要: Fibrous material comprised of layers of fibers which are essentially unbonded in their initial formation, bonded by minute, adhesive bonds distributed internally in the material according to predetermined nonuniform Z direction distribution characteristics is produced by sequentially forming fiber layers and applying adhesive between the layers in a manner to introduce adhesive into the layers while leaving the surfaces of the material essentially free of adhesive and solely fibrous. Alternative sequences are disclosed providing different predetermined bond distribution characteristics to obtain different absorbency, tensile and tactile properties. The nonuniformly distributed minute adhesive bonds form an internal three dimensional fiber scrim, and there are disclosed modifications of the material incorporating other two dimensional reinforcements integrated with the three dimensional fiber scrim to enhance tensile strength of the finished material. Also disclosed are composite products incorporating the internally adhesively bonded fibrous material with fluff batts and films. Apertured internally bonded fibrous webs are also disclosed.

摘要: A fluff pad for an absorbent product such as a diaper, sanitary napkin or the like is formed by superposing two layers of fluff top-to-top. The layers are formed separately but simultaneously on conveyor wires. The non-wire side of a layer is the "top". Each layer is scarffed and debulked. One layer is removed from its wire by suction and placed with its wire side engaging a wrap sheet traveling beneath the wire on which the second fluff layer is formed. The second layer is removed from its wire by applying suction from beneath, through the wrap sheet and first layer to deposit the second layer on the first in inverted relation. An additional dispersion sheet may be added between the fluff layers, if desired.
