The invention is directed to an anti-vibration sound insulator for a suspended ceiling which is intended to be used either in residential or commercial applications. The insulator comprises a metal furring devised to be fixed to the ceiling. It also includes a central part comprising a star-shaped element having an upper vertical plate provided with an orifice and two lower plates each having extremities. These extremities are folded so as to jointly form a slide rail sized to receive and support the folded extremities of the metal furring. The central part also comprises an insulating element devised to be inserted in the upper plate orifice, this insulating element including an orifice. This latter orifice allows introducing a fixing element so as to fix the insulator beneath a floor, or against a joist supporting the floor.

Prefabricated element arranged on a single wall of a room for forming a double sound insulating and sound absorbing wall. The prefabricated element provides efficient sound insulation of the room and a total sound absorption of sound waves whose frequency is centered at one of the natural frequencies of the room. The element comprises a frame supporting a flexible panel by means of elastic sealing means, the flexible panel being maintained at a predetermined distance from the single wall due to the thickness of said frame whereby the resonant frequency of the double wall becomes equal to a natural resonant frequency of the room corresponding to sound waves propagating perpendicularly to the single wall. In addition, the prefabricated element may also comprise an additional element placed in the middle of the panel which permits equalization of the natural resonant frequency of the assembly comprising the flexible panel and the additional element to the low natural frequency of the room. This occurs when the frame and the panel of the element are standardized to match one of the low natural frequencies of the room.

The fastener may be a screw and may comprise a wafer head and shank with a threaded portion and a smooth portion. The smooth portion is used to allow the sound isolation clip to freely move when engaged with the support channel and uniformly distribute the static dead load into the sound isolation clip.

A sound absorbent barrier has a sound absorbent layer disposed between a porous first cover and a second cover. The barrier also has a waterproof sound-permeable membrane between the first cover and the sound absorbent layer. The sound absorbent layer is thus protected from damage by the first and second covers and water ingress is prevented by the sound permeable membrane. The second cover may be non-porous to reflect sound waves which have passed through the sound absorbent layer back through the sound absorbent layer. Alternatively, the second cover may be porous to enable absorption of sound from two directions.
