The turnover table (6) secures the building stones (12) in place, pivots them together about a horizontal axis (4) running at a distance parallel to the wall (1) to be produced, and transposes them with the top side down. The turnover table (6) can be loaded quickly by a belt (9) and another turnover table (7) for transposing the building-stone course in one piece from the conveyor belt (9) to the other turnover table (6). As a result of the increased output thus effected, the production facility can be integrated into a factory having a plurality of finishing stations for further production stages.

A method and apparatus for the fabrication of a vertical block wall section. A vertical wall section is formed by conveying a row of blocks from a first conveyor belt to a second conveyor belt, elevating the row of blocks on the second conveyor belt until it is in contact with a wall section held vertically above the second conveyor belt, and holding the wall section with the additional row in elevated position while the second conveyor belt is lowered to receive a further row. After formation of a wall section of a given predetermined height, a wheeled pallet is moved onto a track on the second conveyor belt to a position below the elevated wall section. The pallet is then elevated by the second conveyor belt into engagement with the elevated wall section, the hold for the wall section is released, the pallet is lowered to an original position, and the wall section disposed on the pallet is moved to a position vertically displaced from the second conveyor means. In this way, vertical wall sections may be fabricated without interruption of the fabricating sequence by waiting for individual blocks to be asembled into a block row, and without waiting for themortar to set before removing the preformed wall section, and by minimizing the amount of chipping damage resulting to the block edges.

A brick placing machine consisting of a horizontally disposed substantially rectangular rectangle the length of which corresponds approximately to the maximum width or height of any brick panel to be formed, a substantially horizontal mould on which a brick panel can be formed arranged adjacent to the receptacle the receptacle being constructed to receive bricks constituting part of a panel, the bricks being arranged in the receptacle in a configuration in which they are to be placed on the mould, the receptacle having in it clamps for clamping the bricks in their correct relative positions with appropriate spaces between bricks and between courses of bricks for the reception of mortar, the receptacle being movable to a position over the mould in which position the clamps are released to leave the bricks on the mould in the desired position, the receptacle then being moved clear of the bricks placed on the mould and moved relative to the mould so that the receptacle can be suitable refilled with bricks and the cycle repeated until a brick panel of the desired configuration is assembled on the mould. It is preferred that the receptacle is mounted pivotably about one end and is moved over the mould be pivoting about its pivotal axis to bring the faces of the bricks held in the receptacle face downwardly onto the mould.

A machine for automatically laying building blocks and the like into a panel. It includes a supply conveyor for feeding a predetermined number of blocks into the machine in proper sequence to form a course, the blocks standing on end. An in-feed support conveyor receives the blocks while still in upright position. A feeder carriage reciprocates over the in-feed conveyor and carries flow-guns for applying adhesive to the exposed upper ends of the blocks and to the exposed edges of the blocks at different times. The carriage is provided with clamps which, as the carriage advances, successively clamp the blocks for pivotal movement about transverse axes. Beyond the in-feed conveyor, is a course-forming and supporting conveyor which is transversely arranged relative to the in-feed conveyor and, over which the carriage advances, which has pairs of parallel guides for receiving the clamped blocks on the feeder carriage. As the blocks are moved by the advancing carriage into a pair of the aligned guides, they are tilted into horizontal positions, by movement about the transverse clamp axes, and arranged in the guides as a horizontal row of spaced blocks, and are later released by the clamps. The released blocks are slidably pushed together in the guides and centered relative to the conveyor by ram units so that they will adhere as a horizontal course. The course-forming and supporting guide conveyor is advanced inwardly or rearwardly intermittently to advance the formed course successively into engagement with a transfer unit which reciprocates rearwardly and forwardly above the conveyor to successively grip the adhered courses, and at the same time to align other pairs of guides successively with the rows of blocks supplied by the feeder carriage. The transfer unit moves the formed courses successively over a panel-support elevator where they are released, the elevator being lowered gradually so that the courses are laid thereon, with the courses then adhering to form a panel. Automatic programming and timing controls are provided for bringing about all of the operations in proper sequence.

A method and apparatus for the production of prefabricated block wall panels wherein a row of blocks is placed on a conveyor system with the intended vertical joints of the blocks facing upwardly in a horizontal plane. A first mortar applying device applies mortar to these intended vertical joints whereupon the blocks are rotated 90.degree. onto another conveyor system where the now actually vertical joints of the blocks are compressed against each preceeding block. The mortar for the upper horizontal joint is then applied by a second mortar applying device and the thus assembled row of mortared blocks are then stacked onto a descending wall panel comprising a plurality of such rows. Openings for doors and windows may also be provided in the wall panel by aligning blocks into piers and lifting them onto a wall panel.
