    摘要: A torque overload release clutch is disclosed made up of a drive member and a driven member adapted to be connected between a power source and a load to transmit a torsional force and to release at a predetermined torque. The clutch release mechanism is made up of a plurality of spaced thermoplastic modules supported in the driven member and a plurality of spaced recesses in the drive member. The modules are each made up of a sleeve and a pin. The sleeve is supported on the driven member and it receives the pin. The pin has a first follower and a second follower member on it. The first follower engages the side of the recesses which acts as a cam and urges the pin toward the sleeve in proportion to the magnitude of the torsional force. The second follower engages a cam surface on the sleeve resisting the force that urges the pin toward the sleeve. When the torque reaches the predetermined magnitude, the second cam follower overcomes resistance of the sleeve and enter the sleeve which has an internal recess and thereby holds the pin from returning thereby releasing the coupling.

    摘要: The invention is an improved clutching means for tapping attachments and particularly adaptable in attachments having free axial float. Direct and reverse drive is provided for by way of planetary gears for driving in direct and reverse drive in the exemplary attachment in which the clutching means is embodied. An adjustment is provided for depth. Spring biased clutch drive members are provided for both the direct and reverse drive providing a narrow, neutral position. Each clutch driver member is in the form of a sleeve having a ball race carrying driving balls interposed between axial splines on a driving part and on the driven spindle. The splines have arcuate side surfaces to confrom to the driving balls providing for substantially frictionless drive in both direct and reverse modes, the balls being free to roll. The splines are especially configurated to facilitate engagement of the balls with them. In one form the splines have slanted or inclined end surfaces to achieve this purpose and in a preferred form the splines have arcuate side and end surfaces forming a continuous oval shaped track.

    摘要: A rotary torque transmission device has at least one pair of balls or rollers transmitting a torque load through respective contact points or lines with driving and driven members of the device and a contact point or line with each other. The contact points (or lines) do not lie on the same line (or plane) whereby the torque load produces an offset force. This is resisted by resilient means and increases with the torque load until the force overcomes said resistance and causes substantially friction-free rolling of the balls or rollers on said contact points or lines. In different embodiments the rolling movement disengages the drive through the device or it is utilized to stop the drive input.

The means for rotation also includes a clutch mechanism having a rotary drive member connected to a drive shaft, a driven member coaxially mounted on the drive shaft in a rotatably free manner, and resilient means in between the drive member and the driven member to engage both and rotate the members together. The resilient means includes a provision to slip the engagement and to permit the rotary drive member to rotate without imparting rotational movement to the driven member when a predetermined restraint of rotation is applied to the driven member.

    摘要: A clutch mechanism of the rocker-shift type has a carrier member interposed between and affixed to one of a rotatable driving and a rotatable driven member. The carrier member has circumferentially spaced rocker arms, having normally self-disengaging clutch portions, that are adapted to be rocked radially, on at least one end thereof, by means of a shift yoke and collar, for selective rocking engagement into coupling engagement with adjacent corresponding normally self-disengaging clutch portions on the other of the driving and driven members. The collar has locked neutral and locked engaged positions on the carrier, with the improvement comprising means for axially shifting the collar to an unlocked engaged position intermediate the locked neutral and locked engaged positions and yieldingly maintaining the collar in this unlocked engaged position at a predetermined torque level, with the collar being axially shifted back into locked neutral position as result of the separation of the self-disengaging clutch portions when the predetermined torque level is exceeded by the torque transfer between the driving and driven members.
