摘要： A filter base cap for sealing and protecting a filter base once a filter has been removed for storage, shipping and transporting of a mechanical system is provided. The filter base cap attaches to the filter base of the system to prevent leakage of residual fluid within the system, such as an engine or other device, after the system has been tested. The filter base cap will provide fluid circulation in the event the mechanical system is started prior to replacing filter base cap with a filter that would otherwise provide fluid flow to the mechanical system.

摘要： A locking cover is designed to protectively enclose a lubricant fitting mounted on a cross of a universal joint and cannot be removed after installation without damaging or destroying the locking cover. The locking cover includes a first half and a second half that are joined together by a hinge. Each half includes a generally U-shaped body portion defined by a central web and a pair of opposed leg portions. The first leg has an outwardly extending tang formed thereon having an outwardly extending barb. The second leg has an opening formed therein that terminates in a shoulder. A cover panel extends between the first and second legs defining a partial cavity therebetween. A pair of posts are provided on the cover panel and extend inwardly into the partial cavity defined by the first and second legs and the cover panel. When the locking cover is closed about the lubrication fitting, the tangs are received within the openings such that the barbs engage the associated shoulders. As a result, the two halves are locked together about the lubricant fitting. The posts are sized and positioned to engage portions of the lubricant fitting to support the locking cover thereon. Once the two halves are enclosed about the lubricant fitting, the locking cover cannot be subsequently removed without damaging or destroying the locking cover. This feature prevents service personnel from readily gaining access to the lubricant fitting to lubricate the cross at premature intervals.

摘要： A closure member for sealing an opening for a cavity in a housing to prevent fluid from being communicated to the surrounding environment. The closure member has a shaft with an end member having a irregular radial surface thereon. A first torque is applied to the irregular surface to move threads into corresponding threads in the housing to join the closure member to the housing. A self locking fastener has as stem with threads that extend from a head that engages the housing when a second torque is applied to the head. A washer retained on the stem engages the irregular surface and deforms as the second torque is applied to the head. The deformation prevents relative rotation to thereafter occur between the closure member and housing to assure that the opening in the cavity remains sealed.

摘要： Apparatus is disclosed for lubricating and/or cleaning out sheathed cable assemblies. The apparatus includes a housing which defines a reservoir for containing a lubricating medium. A hollow cylindrical jacket is mounted above an opening in the upper wall of the housing. Within the jacket a packing plug is mounted in assembled relationship about the sheath with the lower end of the plug disposed adjacent an upwardly diverging frusto-conical surface. The plug is compressed into fluid-tight sealing contact about the sheath by means of a packing nut which is threadable engaged in the upper end of the jacket. A washer disposed between the packing nut and plug provides a bearing surface for the nut. An air valve is mounted in the housing for receiving a charge of gas under pressure which forces oil from the reservoir through the clearance between the cable and sheath.

摘要： An improved method and apparatus are provided for sealing hollow pins which are commonly used as lubricant reservoirs in, e.g., track chain assemblies of crawler tractors, and linkage joints of earthmoving vehicles. One embodiment of the invention comprises a plug of elastomer material which has a lubricant passage axially therethrough, which passage receives an auxiliary plug means for the purpose of obturating the passage as well as causing radial expansion of the elastomer plug into positive engagement with a receiving axial bore in a hollow pin. The auxiliary expansion means takes the form of a screw, a spherical ball, or a headless plug employing a plurality of annular serrations. Another embodiment comprises a spherical ball which is received in a stepped, axial bore of a hollow pin and is retained therein by a Belleville washer. The invention facilitates refilling in the field of the lubricant reservoir contained within the pin.
