    摘要: A heater for a liquid has a combustion chamber, a jacket for the liquid extending about the combustion chamber and a burner head assembly connected to the combustion chamber. The burner head assembly includes a housing having a burner mounted thereon and a hollow interior. A control module and a fan are mounted in the hollow interior, the fan being connected to an electric motor. A compressor and a fuel pump are mounted on the housing and are operatively connected to the electric motor. The control module may include controls for exercising components of the heater prior to combustion, thereby verifying operation of these components. Preferably there is a speed control for the motor, such as a closed loop speed control which regulates motor speed and accordingly output of the heater. Preferably there is a backup system using a lookup table in the event that the closed loop speed control fails. Also preferably there is provision for monitoring flame sensor functionality by providing an indicator light which mirrors operation of the flame sensor. The heater may have a selective soft start for the coolant pump which operates only when required so as to reduce unnecessary chatter on the motor relay. A system is also provided for distinguishing true overcurrent faults from overcurrents arising from voltage changes during starting of the vehicle engine. Reignition algorithms are provided to restart the burner in the event of flame sputters caused, for example, by fuel bubbles, but shut off the heater in the event that the fuel is truly cut off.

    摘要: An ignition control apparatus for a pulse combustor, wherein the number of trials for energization of a spark electrode is calculated and memorized, the memorized number of trials is reset to an initial value or zero after ignition of the fuel-air mixture in a combustion chamber of the combustor has been successfully obtained, a period of time for pre-purge of the combustion chamber is determined in accordance with the memorized number of trials for energization of the spark electrode, and a purge blower for the combustor activated for the determined period of time prior to energization of the spark electrode to change the unburned mixture ratio to a non-combustible ratio on the trial for ignition. In the ignition control apparatus, the presence of flame in the combustion chamber is further detected for a predetermined time, and the purge blower is deactivated when a predetermined number of trials for ignition have been attempted due to lack of the presence of flame in the combustion chamber.

    摘要: An electrically-operated gas valve in a gas furnace is pulsated between the fully-open and fully-closed position in response to a series of electrical pulses of selectable frequency and duty cycle. The pulses are generated by an electronic timer, which is user-adjustable to select a frequency and duty cycle from a range of frequencies and duty cycles. A switch in series with the gas valve alternately energizes and deenergizes the valve in response to the pulses, whereby the valve is fully-open when energized and fully-closed when deenergized.

    摘要: Control circuits are provided for a heat exchange unit including environment responsive means placed in the general area of the heat exchange unit's heat exchanger or of the associated heat distribution network or return system. The environment responsive means is connected in series between the heat exchange unit's main control switch, such as a thermostat, and the fuel valve which controls the flow of fuel to the unit's burner. The environment responsive means may be either independent of, or connected in parallel with a heat circulator if any, associated with the unit's heat exchanger. The control circuits of the present invention control the action of the heat exchange units fuel valve to create an intermittent heating flame in response to environmental changes at the heat exchanger, heat distribution network or return system during each heat demand cycle. This conserves fuel and energy by intermittently terminating the flow of fuel, and thus the burning of fuel, during each heat demand cycle while continuing to utilize and distribute heat stored in the heat exchanger during non-fuel burning periods of each heat demand cycle.
