摘要:
A method of operating a cooktop appliance in a precision mode includes monitoring a temperature with a temperature sensor and starting a vaporization timer when the monitored temperature enters a vaporization band. The method also includes freezing the precision mode when the vaporization timer expires and the monitored temperature is within the vaporization band.

A control system for a fuel-fired appliance and methods of operating are disclosed. When a failed ignition of a burner is detected, the control system is configured to enter a soft lockout state if the voltage level of a burner of the fuel-fired appliance is low during the failed ignition and a hard lockout state if the voltage level of the burner is not low during the failed ignition. In some cases, if a period of time has elapsed and/or the voltage level of the burner has increased after the control system enters the soft lockout state, the control system may be configured to initiate one or more subsequent ignition trials. In some cases, if the one or more subsequent ignition trials fail, the control system may be configured to then enter the hard lockout state.

A system for automatically igniting a gas lamp by sensing the presence of a flame according to one embodiment of the present invention may include an igniter, power source, relay, valve controller, pulse-width modulator, and microcontrol unit. The microcontrol unit is connected to the igniter, the power source, the valve controller, the relay, and the pulse-width modulator. The microcontrol unit uses the pulse-width modulator to calibrate a total power supply to the igniter and determines the presence of a flame by sensing an electrical resistance of the igniter to the total power supply. The microcontrol unit also controls the amount of electricity supplied to the igniter through the relay and adjusts the amount of combustible fluid supplied to the igniter through the valve controller to automatically ignite the gas lamp.

A control system for a fuel-fired appliance and methods of operating are disclosed. When an electrical characteristic of a flame detector fails to cross a threshold level during an ignition attempt and when the electrical characteristic of the flame detector changes by a predetermined amount, the control system may activate an indicator indicating a problem with the flame detector (e.g. dirty, misaligned, or otherwise unable to properly detect the flame).

In an ignition system for sensing a change in a resistance value during a combustion of a heating resistive element and detecting a fire extinction, a resistance value of the heating resistive element is sensed by a resistance value detecting circuit at a predetermined time interval set by an interval setting circuit, and a difference between the resistance value and that sensed before an elapse of the predetermined period of time is calculated by a resistance value calculating circuit. A comparing circuit compares a difference in the resistance values with a reference value stored in a reference value memory, and a extinction detecting circuit detects a fire extinction when the difference calculated by the resistance value difference calculating circuit had exceeded the reference value. Accordingly, there is attained an ignition system which reasonably determines a fire extinction without an additional complex structure.

In furnace control apparatus, circuitry for energizing an electrically energizable fuel valve of the furnace. A thermistor is connected for bistable operation in either an unheated first state or a self-heating second state, the thermistor being shifted from the first to the second state when momentarily heated above a predetermined threshold temperature. In the second state, the thermistor causes energization of the fuel valve for supplying fuel to the furnace burner. A heater for the thermistor is energized by a fuel demand signal and momentarily heats the thermistor above its threshold temperature, thereby causing fuel to be supplied to the burner in response to a demand for fuel. This invention relates to apparatus for controlling operation of a furnace, and more particularly to such furnace control apparatus including improved circuitry for energizing an electrically energizable fuel valve of the furnace.

In an electrothermal furnace control, means for energizing the fuel valve, the fuel valve being an electrically energizable type requiring a higher level of energization for initially supplying fuel and a lesser level for continuing to supply fuel. A triggerable semiconductor current-switching device includes main terminals connected in a circuit with the main fuel valve to an AC power source. Means is provided for supplying triggering current to cause triggering of the switching device for initially energizing the fuel valve at the higher level but ceases to supply the triggering current after ignition of the fuel. Means connect the fuel valve to the power source to supply energization at the lower level such that the valve is insufficiently energized to initially supply fuel to the burner, but after triggering of the switching device remains energized for continuing to supply fuel to the burner until disconnected from the source of power.
