An absorption based heater is constructed on a fluid barrier heat exchanging plate such that it requires little space in a structure. The absorption based heater has a desorber, heat exchanger, and absorber sequentially placed on the fluid barrier heat exchanging plate. The vapor exchange faces of the desorber and the absorber are covered by a vapor permeable membrane that is permeable to a refrigerant vapor but impermeable to an absorbent. A process fluid flows on the side of the fluid barrier heat exchanging plate opposite the vapor exchange face through the absorber and subsequently through the heat exchanger. The absorption based heater can include a second plate with a condenser situated parallel to the fluid barrier heat exchanging plate and opposing the desorber for condensation of the refrigerant for additional heating of the process fluid.

A family of organometallic liquid absorbents that can have their thermophysical properties tailored for specific applications. Processes to manufacture these liquid absorbents and methods to optimize their thermodynamic properties are included. These organometallic liquid absorbents are used in compressor driven and heat driven heat pumps (50) and cryocoolers (99). With optimum thermodynamic properties, these heat pumps systems are highly efficient. These liquid absorbents are not damaging to the environment, are non-toxic and non-corrosive and are applicable to environmentally clean and highly efficient heat pumps, refrigerators, air conditioners, process heating and cooling systems, electronics cooling systems, cryocoolers and gas separation processes.

An improvement to absorption heat pumps and refrigerators, which comprises supplying of a first fraction S.sub.1 of a solution S subjected to a desorption step, to a heating and vaporization zone E where the solution S.sub.1 is progressively heated and vaporized in a temperature interval .DELTA. between an initial temperature T.sub.i, and a final temperature T.sub.f, by heat exchange with a fluid external to the desorption zone, while a vapor phase V' and optionally, a liquid phase L' are produced, which phases are separated from each other, and a second fraction S.sub.2 of the solution S is fed to a desorption zone D in which the fraction S.sub.2 and vapor phase V' are contacted to obtain a liquid phase L", phases L' and L" forming the phase L which is recycled to the absorption step.
Abstract:
Systems and methods for compressor-assisted sorption rate. A sorption system includes a sorber that absorbs and desorbs a refrigerant gas, such as ammonia, onto and from a coordinative complex compound. The system includes an evaporator, a condenser, and a compressor. The temperature and pressure of the gas within the sorber are monitored and the compressor is controlled to adjust the pressure to increase the absorption and desorption rates and increase the thermal cycle speed of the sorption system for applications such as laser systems requiring rapid, periodic cooling.

An absorption chiller may include an absorbent circuit in which a liquid absorbent circulates and a working medium circuit in which a liquid working medium circulates. The absorbent circuit may include an absorber and a desorber. The working medium circuit may include an evaporator and a condenser. The absorption chiller may also include a low pressure membrane arrangement and a high pressure membrane arrangement each being permeable to a working medium vapour, impermeable to the liquid working medium and the liquid absorbent, and arranged between the evaporator and the absorber such that it is in contact with the working medium and the absorbent. At least one of the low pressure membrane arrangement and the high pressure membrane arrangement may include a working medium membrane and an absorbent membrane.
Abstract:
A dehumidifier for a compressor, including: a plurality of dehumidifying members that absorb moisture; and a flow passage controlling valve module that enables a low-temperature vapor refrigerant to alternately flow into the plurality of dehumidifying members and enables the low-temperature refrigerant to flow into a compressor in a state where moisture contained in the low-temperature refrigerant is absorbed and is removed, enables a high-temperature vapor refrigerant ejected from the compressor to alternately flow into the dehumidifying members and regenerates the dehumidifying members. Thus, since a liquid-state absorbent contained in a refrigerant flowing into the compressor is removed by the dehumidifier, damage caused by liquid compression and corrosion of the compressor can be reduced. In addition, the structure of the dehumidifier is simple, and an additional external heating source is not required.
