A stream of seed may be maintained at a metered flow rate through multiple stages of a treatment process. These multiple stages include dispensing, first application of fluid, second application of fluid, and seed transport. Seed transport may be accomplished through a conveyor configured to maintain the metered flow rate while providing static mixing, drying, and conditioning of the treated seed. The metered stream of seed may be treated within a first treatment applicator where a first wet treatment is applied, transferred through the incline conveyor, and treated again within a second treatment applicator where a second wet treatment is applied. Overtreating in multiple stages may layer consecutive seed treatments around the treated seed. A predetermined amount of seed treatment may be applied to the coated seed based on the metered flow rate established. Maintaining the metered flow rate through multiple stages eliminates the need for multiple metering steps.

The invention provides apparatus suitable for use for example in drying or treating articles such as sheets of paper, which comprises an endless conveyor means arranged to form a plurality of support surfaces for said articles while traversing an operative zone in which the articles are subjected to a medium and to retract the surfaces into an unformed condition outside of that zone, the surfaces comprising a stack or column while in that zone, advancing and retraction means to advance to form each support surface at the entry to the zone, and means to move the formed surfaces through the zone, said advancing and retraction means acting to retract each surface successively in the region of the exit from said zone. One example of the invention provides a flexible web of material which is formed into horizontal loops to provide the support surfaces.

A tower for drying the inner diameter of elongated tubes includes a plurality of endless synchronously driven pintle conveyors having vertically ascending and descending support paths for the tubes and an air manifold system operative to force heated air at controlled velocity through the pipes in one direction during ascent and to force heated air at increased controlled velocity through the pipes in the opposite direction during descent. The endless conveyors are supported by a plurality of spaced tower frames, with the two end tower frames having air ducts of the manifold system connected thereto, one of said end tower frames and the air duct carried thereby being movable relative to the other tower frames to permit tubes of varying lengths to be conveyed and dried.

A convection drier with a travelling bed is provided for drying and heating bulk materials such as coal, quick coke, blast furnace slag etc. The fundamental principle of its operation consists in blowing through a layer of dried material which is continuously travelling. A stream of a drying agent/hot air or combustion gases/ is passed through a bed of dried material blowing upon the particular particles of this material and removing moisture therefrom. Owing to the fact that the drying agent is passed in variable directions, a good turbulence of air flow as well as a high heat exchange can be obtained. The dried bed is passed between two perforated walls by means of a chain conveyor or falls sliding down by itself due to the force of gravity. The overall dimensions of the drier of the invention are far smaller than those ones of conventional driers. The drier can be adapted to drying bulk materials in large quantities and requires only small power supplies. The gas/even polluted combustion gases/ used in the drying process is preliminary cleaned in the drier for further use.
