A vertical/horizontal convertible suspending reduction furnace, comprises: a metal furnace body (5) of the reduction furnace, a reduction tank (13), a burner (2) and a suspension device. The metal furnace body (5) of the reduction furnace, which is connected with a sealing head (3) at one end, and connected with a fixed flange (20) of the reduction tank at the other end, is distributed with reduction tanks (13) inside uniformly. Burners (2) are provided symmetrically at the circumference of the metal furnace body (5), and a universal hoisting ring (4) is provided at its central point or off-central point. A steel rope (12), both ends of which are obliquely pulled on the suspension device, is hanged on the universal hoisting ring (4).

A device is described for heat-treating sheet metal strips (6), comprising at least one radiant tube unit (1) which has three tubes disposed in a common plane parallel to the sheet metal strip (6), namely a middle tube (2) that can be connected to a burner and two outer tubes (3) that are connected at both ends to the middle tube (2) by means of tube bends (4), and a bearing (8) on the side of the radiant tube unit (1) opposite the burner for a bearing journal (9) connected to the two tube bends (4) between the middle tube (2) on the one hand and the two outer tubes (3) on the other hand, the bearing journal engaging in a journal receptacle (10) of the bearing (8) in an axially displaceable manner. In order to provide advantageous constructional conditions it is proposed that an insert (16) forming a sliding layer (15) is provided in the support area of the bearing journal (9) between the journal receptacle (10) of the bearing (8) and the bearing journal (9).

A conveyor for moving hot material at temperatures on this order of 1000° F. or higher along a trough receiving the material has one or more cooling liquid flow vessels extending over but spaced from the outer surface of a trough inner wall to indirectly cause cooling of the inner wall. A heat transfer connection conductively interconnect the vessel and the inner trough wall such as interposed thin webs or plates, or alternatively a mass of conductive beads interposed to controllably transfer heat into the cooling liquid flow vessel. A series of wear plates are clamped to a pushing side of a helical tube of an auger type conveyor, which tube can also receive a flow of cooling liquid. The arrangement of a mass of conductive beads is used to provide a non rigid mechanical support of fluid carrying tubing, the support having a predetermined thermal conductivity.

A particulate material drying apparatus and method including a pulse combustor and an associated combustion chamber. Fuel and combustion air are introduced to the combustion chamber whereby the combination of the pulse combustor and combustion chamber generates a pulsating flow of hot gases. A material feed introduction chamber receives the hot gases and material to be dried is delivered into the introduction chamber for contact therein with the flow of hot gases. A drying chamber is connected to the introduction chamber for receiving the mixture of material and hot gases exiting from the introduction chamber. The drying chamber comprises an enclosing wall, a porous inner wall spaced inwardly from the enclosing wall, and an annular space defined between the enclosing wall and the porous inner wall. Fluid under pressure is introduced to the annular space whereby the fluid passes through the porous inner wall and deters build-up of material on the inner surface of the porous inner wall.

Heat radiation tubes for furnaces and the like heating devices, mainly for industrial processes.Heating can be obtained by electrical heating elements or by combustion for example of gas. The radiation tube is a circular tube having end walls, flanges etc. as required.The radiation tube is a seam-less tube made from iron-chromium-aluminum thereby greatly reducing oxide spalling and enhancing strength thereof at high temperatures. Preferably the tubes are made by extrusion whereby conditions are chosen to provide a rough surface with grooves and ridges which further improves the adhesion of the oxide layer.

A refractory hearth for use in an industrial heat treat furnace is disclosed whereby the hearth contains no alloy parts with the exception of the pusher assembly and the roller chain attached to it. L-shaped ceramic, refractory or silicon carbide tile are placed in position to support material being heat treated, while at the same time preventing the roller chain from rising up out of place. The outside edges of said L-shaped tile shall act as guides to move stock trays in a straight path. Refractory material used to hold hearth in place will also support radiant tubes used to supply heat.

A furnace for heating and melting zinc comprising a reservoir, a movable upper section, pre-heaters supported on the upper section and immersion burners supported on the upper section and extending into the reservoir. The movable upper section can be raised and lowered relative to the level of molten zinc in the reservoir and thereby insure maximum heating efficiency of the zinc. In a preferred imbodiment the pre-heaters and immersion burners are gas fired.

A refractory block design for re-radiating a substantial amount of heat losses back to a heated product thereby substantially maintaining its required temperature. A relatively thin sheet of stainless steel, i.e. the ratio of the thickness of the sheet being approximately 1/500th of the thickness of the heated product, is wrapped in a sinuous manner around one side of a refractory fiber block arranged in a similar sinuous manner to tightly fit into the folds of the block for storing heat, and radiating heat back to the heated product when thermal equilibrium therebetween is reached.
