Abstract: A furnace for heating metal strips, and to a device and a method for producing metal strips by continuous casting and rolling. The device includes a casting machine, a furnace through which a metal strip can be transported in a conveying direction, a first external cutting apparatus and a second external cutting apparatus, the first external cutting apparatus being upstream of the furnace and the second external cutting apparatus being downstream of the furnace, in the conveying direction of the metal strip, and at least one rolling mill. A first internal cutting apparatus and a second internal cutting apparatus are provided inside the furnace. A segment of the metal strip between said internal cutting apparatuses can be separated by actuating the latter.

Abstract: A plant and process for the continuous production of hot-rolled steel strips with a minimum thickness of 0.3 mm is disclosed which includes a continuous casting device of thin or medium slabs with a thickness between 40 and 150 mm and a maximum width of at least 2100 mm followed by a roughing mill, a first induction furnace, a water descaler, a second induction furnace, a finishing mill, a cooling station, a cutting station and a winding station. A system for feeding a protective atmosphere containing ≤3% vol. oxygen is provided from the inlet of the second induction furnace to at least the third stand of the finishing mill. Between the continuous casting device and the roughing mill, an initial thermal conditioning and descaling section is provided having in sequence an induction edge heater, an induction heater for the rest of the slab surface and a water descaler.

Abstract: A first steel strip and a second steel strip (7) are rolled in succession in at least one roll stand (1) of a cold rolling mill. A rolling pause, in which no steel strip is rolled, is provided between the rolling of the first and the second steel strip (7). The first steel strip s fed over a first path starting from a first pay-off reel (2), and the second steel strip (7) is fed over a second path starting from the first pay-off reel (2), or from a second pay-off reel different from the first pay-off reel (2). The first steel strip is not heated as it is fed to the rolling mill (1), whereas, by contrast, the second steel strip (7) is heated. The second path is longer than the first path.
