    摘要: Presence of metals such as copper and nickel being economically interestingetals are determined as to existence thereof in the content of manganese nodules according to a method by means of analysis of the activation gamma spectrum of manganese nodule samples after a neutron irradiation thereon. The sample is irradiated with fast neutrons and from the resulting gamma spectrum the ratio of radiation intensities of two main component parts preferably manganese and iron is taken in order to determine the percentage metal content by way of empirically obtained geochemical correlation-data which reproduce the percentage parts of further elements dependent upon proportional ratio of two main elements of the manganese lumps.

    摘要: Method for analysis of the content of certain elements in a continuous flow of bulk materials by neutron bombardment and measurement of the gamma radiation emitted by such elements, which makes it possible to distinguish between the capture radiation and the activation radiation. The neutron source is a neutron-generating tube which is activated periodically. The signals from a single gamma radiation detector are considered only after neutron emission has ceased, during distinct intervals corresponding to the phenomena of capture and radiation of the activated elements, respectively. The respective signals are treated in two distinct measurement routes, and the measurements are then combined automatically. A third measurements route can be provided for gamma radiation resulting from inelastic collisions. The source and the detector are positioned in a probe lodged in a polyethylene protective tube within the flow of the materials. The installation is used to analyze large flows of minerals without taking samples, in the mining, cement, and aluminum industries.

    摘要: Method and apparatus for X-ray spectrum analysis of flowing material, and particularly where the material has two phases such as a suspension. A flow of gas or floats are used to separate the flowing material from an X-ray window in a casing containing an X-ray source and detector, which casing is located directly in the stream of flowing material. The gas flow provides a protective curtain across the window. An electrode structure is moveably mounted adjacent to the window and enables the solid state phase to be deposited for separate analysis of the solid and liquid phases of the flowing material.
