    摘要: An electro-optical display device which comprises a twisted nematic liquid crystal layer and a photo-conducting layer. Two crossed electrode assemblies allow the liquid crystal to be made transparent at the points to be displayed. The light which passes at these points makes the photo-conductor conducting which applies the whole of the voltage to the liquid crystal and gives greater rapidity of inscription and a memory effect.

The recording medium includes: a first display component that is configured by laminating at least a first photoconductive layer, a first display layer and a light blocking layer; and a second display component that is configured by laminating at least a second photoconductive layer and a second display layer. The second display component is joined together with the first display component such that the second photoconductive layer and the first photoconductive layer are in proximity to each other, and the second display component, in response to irradiation with light for image writing from the second display layer side, displays an image represented by that light for image writing.

    摘要: A liquid crystal operation device including a pair of substrates opposed to each other; a liquid crystal layer interposed between the substrates; and a plurality of first electrodes and a plurality of second electrodes which are at least partially opposed to each other with an insulating film interposed therebetween. The first electrodes are provided on one of the substrates. The liquid crystal operation device further includes a third electrode provided on a surface of the other substrate to be opposed to the second electrodes; and a photosensitive section bridging the second electrodes and a signal line provided in the vicinity of the second electrodes. The photosensitive section is formed of a photoconductive material. A first capacitance is generated between the first electrodes and the second electrodes, a second capacitance is generated between the second electrodes and the third electrode. The second electrodes are controllably connected to and separated from the signal line by the photosensitive section. An image processing system includes such a liquid crystal operation device; and a spatial light modulator for optically transferring an image to the liquid crystal operation device.

    摘要: A recording device comprises a display, a photoconductor superposed on the display, and a pair of electrodes disposed on both sides of the display and photoconductor. At least one of the electrodes is divided into sub-electrodes. Information can be written into the recording device by means of light while applying a voltage to each sub-electrode. Therefore, information is not written into part of the recording device corresponding to the sub-element to which no voltage is applied even if extraneous light is applied. As a result a sharp image with no noise can be formed. The recording device also comprises a feed member for applying a voltage to a pair of electrodes of such a recording device, a first light source for writing information in the recording device, and a second light source for reset. Consequently, reset and recording can be done in one cycle.

    摘要: An image pickup device capable of controlling the quantity of incident light. The device has a liquid crystal layer with upper and lower transparent electrodes disposed over a photosite. A fixed bias voltage is applied to the upper transparent electrode, while another voltage is applied to the lower transparent layer. The photosite converts incident light into electrons, and then stores a signal charge produced by the conversion of the incident light. A variation in the stored signal charge varies the voltage applied to the lower transparent layer. Thus, the liquid crystal layer modulates the incident light in response to a variation of the signal charge quantity.

    摘要: An image processing apparatus comprises a liquid modulator having a photoconductive material including an image-writing plane, a liquid crystal layer laminated on the photoconductive material, a pair of electrodes sandwiching the photoconductive material and the liquid crystal layer, and a spacer inserted between the photoconductive material and one of the electrodes. Also provided are an analog writing system for analogously writing an original image in the light modulator; a digital reading system for digitally reading the image written in the light modulator; a processing section for image-processing the read image data; a digital writing system for digitally writing processed image data in the light modulator; and, an analog reading system for analogously reading an image written in the light modulator. The liquid crystal layer is either a phase-transition type liquid crystal, a p-type smectic A liquid crystal providing a storage function, or a ferroelectric liquid crystal providing a storage function. The phase-transition type liquid crystal is selected from a group consisting of (1) a p-type cholesteric liquid crystal and (2) a mixture of p-type cholesteric liquid crystal and p-type nematic liquid crystal. The ferroelectric liquid crystal is selected from a group consisting of (1) a chiral smectic C liquid crystal, (2) a mixture of chiral smectic C liquid crystal and non-chiral smectic C liquid crystal, and (3) a mixture of chiral smectic C liquid crystal and a photoactive material.
