    摘要: A roller is provided with a clamping mechanism that clamps into a closed position upon rotation of the roller in a winding direction, and unclamps into an open position upon rotation in an unwind direction. The roller has a split-core comprising two hollow, semicircular, core halves that toggle between the clamped and unclamped positions when pivoted about a pivot point that is concentric with the rotational axis of the roller. A snap-pivot mechanism provides a snap-action between the core halves by a leaf spring positioned between the core halves. The rotationally free core half is maintained in a fixed position by a pivoting retractable spring plunger engaging a tab on the core half, while the driven core half is rotated toward the fixed free core half, causing the leaf spring to snap to an over center position and clamp the core halves together.

    摘要: Apparatus for intercepting and threading the leader of convoluted motion picture film has a catcher with a tooth which can enter an aperture of the leader and thereupon moves toward two advancing wheels which serve to transport the leader toward a takeup reel. The catcher is provided with guide means in the form of a notch or recess and/or one or more platforms which straighten out a curved or knicked leader so that the tip of the leader is more likely to find its way into the nip of the advancing wheels. The recess or notch is provided in that edge face of the tooth on the catcher which faces the advancing wheels. The platforms flank the tooth and not only serve to guide the leader but also center the catcher when they engage the flanges of one of the advancing wheels.

    摘要: A rotary spool for storage of convoluted elongated flexible strips (such as photographic film or magnetic tape) of the type having a relatively wide end portion followed by a relatively narrow neck portion has a substantially cylindrical core provided in its external surface with a circumferentially extending groove having a main section whose width slightly exceeds the width of a neck portion and a second section whose width slightly exceeds the width of an end portion. That part of the main section which is immediately adjacent to and communicates with the second groove section is flanked by a pair of ledges which overlie two internal recesses provided in the core and communicating with the part of the main section as well as with the second groove section at points located inwardly from the external surface of the core. When the end portion of a strip is inserted into the second groove section and is moved in a direction to enter the recesses of the core, the ledges hold the thus inserted end portion against separation from the spool. A projection in the part of the main groove section has a stop face which prevents the movement of end portion from the recesses back into the second groove section. The projection has a sloping surface located inwardly of the ledges and serving to guide the end portion from the second groove section into those ends of the recesses which are remote from the second groove section.

    摘要: A take-up device for a strip of web material includes a friction driven take-up reel having a pair of spaced flanges and a hub rotatably mounted on a housing. A plurality of teeth extend radially from the hub for engaging the leading end portion of a strip of web material. After leaving the open end of a threading channel having an open end spaced from the hub, the leading end portion of the strip of web material enters a link for guiding the strip to an arm which in turn directs the strip between the reel flanges to the hub. The strip is pulled away from the arm and out of the web guide link by tension applied thereto by the rotating hub to define a new path for the strip from the open end of the threading channel to the hub. A snubber positioned adjacent the open end of the threading channel has a first position for guiding the leading end portion of an advancing strip of web material from the open end of the threading channel to the web guide link and a second position spaced transversely from the first position in a direction perpendicular to the web material''s plane. The snubber is spring biased toward its first position and is moved toward its second position by web tension. When the strip is being rewound from the take-up reel, the snubber is effective to accommodate instantaneous differences in the velocity of the strip in the threading channel and the velocity of the web material being unwound from the take-up reel.

    摘要: A film retaining insert for reels comprises a unitary molded insert that is provided with either a slot or a slot and pin arrangement capable of anchoring the end of a strip of film to facilitate winding film from or onto the hub of the reel to which the insert is secured. The insert is shaped to fit within the space between the axis and the hub of the reel, and has an entry slot adapted to register with a threading slot extending transversely through the hub of the reel. The end of a strip film to be wound on the reel is threaded through the threading slot and into the entry slot of the insert, and then anchored thereto. The insert holds the film end firmly against accidental displacement from the reel, and thereby facilitates winding the film from or onto the hub of the reel.
