Abstract: There is provided an optical system having a viewing window. The optical system comprises a display device arranged to spatially modulated light in accordance with a hologram displayed thereon to form a holographic wavefront. The holographic wavefront forms a holographic reconstruction of an image downstream of the display device. The optical system further comprises a waveguide arranged to receive the holographic wavefront and waveguide the holographic wavefront between a pair of reflective surfaces thereof. One surface of the pair of reflective surfaces is partially transmissive such that a plurality of replicas of the holographic wavefront are emitted therefrom. The optical system further comprises an optical component between the holographic reconstruction and the waveguide, wherein the optical component is arranged to (a) form a virtual image of the holographic reconstruction upstream of the display device and (b) form an image of the displayed hologram at infinity or downstream of the waveguide.

Abstract: A holographic projector includes a display device arranged to form a holographic wavefront by spatially modulating light in accordance with a hologram of a picture. The holographic projector includes a magnification system including a first and second lens. The first lens is arranged form a holographic reconstruction of the picture by focusing the holographic wavefront towards a front focal plane of the first lens. The holographic reconstruction of the picture includes a plurality of pixels. The holographic projector includes a kinoform disposed between the first and second lens and arranged to apply a phase-delay to each pixel of the holographic reconstruction. The holographic projector includes a movement assembly arranged to move the kinoform such that a plurality of different phase-delays are applied to each pixel. The kinoform includes an array of zones and is arranged such that the width of each zone is substantially equal to the distance between adjacent pixels.

Abstract: A light filed (LF) display system for displaying holographic content (e.g., a holographic film or holographic content to augment a film) to viewers in a cinema. The LF display system in the cinema includes LF display modules tiled together to form an array of LF modules. The array of LF modules create a holographic object volume for displaying the holographic content in the cinema. The array of LF modules displays the holographic content to viewers in viewing volumes. The LF display system can be included in a LF film network. The LF film network allows holographic content to be created at one location and presented at another location. The LF film network includes a network system to manage the digital rights of the holographic performance content.

Abstract: There is provided a method of projection using an optical element (502,602) having spatially variant optical power. The method comprises combining Fourier domain data representative of a 2D image with Fourier domain data having a first lensing effect (604a) to produce first holographic data. Light is spatially modulated (504,603a) with the first holographic data to form a first spatially modulated light beam. The first spatially modulated light beam is redirected using the optical element (502,602) by illuminating a first region (607) of the optical element (602) with the first spatially modulated beam. The first lensing effect (604a) compensates for the optical power of the optical element in the first region (607). Advantageous embodiments relate to a head-up display for a vehicle using the vehicle windscreen (502,602) as an optical element to redirect light to the viewer (505,609).

Abstract: A real-time, in situ and automated technology and method for dynamic observation of airborne viruses has been developed, and its application for airborne viruses, using a model virus, MS2 bacteriophage, and SARS-COV-1 RNA, has been demonstrated. There is described a method of performing measurements using a digital in-line holographic microscope (DIHM). The method generally has: propagating a light beam through a pinhole, across a medium including particles, and to a sensor; acquiring, with the sensor, a plurality of holograms, the holograms including scattering information of the particles; and determining, from a reconstruction of the holograms, at least one of shape, size, intensity and phase of the particles from the scattering information of said particles.

Abstract: The invention relates to a light modulation device for a display for representing two- and/or three-dimensional image content or image sequences. The light modulation device comprises a light modulator and a controller. The phase and/or the amplitude of a light wave field, which is substantially collimated, can be varied by means of the light modulator depending on the location of the light modulator. The light modulator can be actuated by means of the control device. According to the invention, in the direction of propagation of the light wave field, at least one diffracting unit is arranged downstream of the light modulator. The diffracting unit has a variable diffracting structure. By means of the diffracting structure, the light wave field varied by the light modulator can be diffracted in a variable and predeterminable manner. Further, the present invention relates to a display and a method for producing a light modulation device.

Abstract: A holographic projector and method of holographic projection is disclosed. A first array of light-modulating pixels displays a first hologram and a second array of light-modulating pixels displays second hologram. A first light source illuminates the first array of pixels such that a first holographic reconstruction, comprising a first zero-order replay field, is formed on a replay plane and a second light source illuminates the second array of pixels such that a second holographic reconstruction, comprising a second zero-order replay field, is formed on the replay plane. Real image content of the first holographic reconstruction is restricted to a first sub-area of the first zero-order replay field and real image content of the second holographic reconstruction is restricted to a first sub-area of the second zero-order replay field. The holographic projector is arranged such that the first zero-order replay field and the second zero-order replay field are no more than partially overlapping. The first sub-area of the first zero-order replay field and the first sub-area of the second zero-order replay field form a continuous display area of the holographic projector.
