In order to obtain exact synchronism between the movement of a record carrier tape and the needle operations of a circular knitting machine, the record carrier is stepwise transported by a stepping motor which is controlled by synchronizing pulses generated by an impulse generator which is controlled by the needles of the knitting cylinder, or by other synchronizing elements of a rotary part of a knitting machine, which are spaced exactly the same distances from each other. Preferably, accelerating and decelerating elements are provided on the needle cylinder, and control an impulse generator so that the speed of the record carrier is gradually increased to a desired speed and then gradually reduced to a standstill when the knitting operations are to be controlled by a standard program.

A method for periodic transmission of data between control devices (10, 11, 12) interconnected via a serial bus (20) is provided, particularly for the transmission of synchronization data. The control devices (10, 11, 12) each have a serial interface (17,17'17") and an arithmetic/control unit (15,18). Data are provided for transmission by the arithmetic/control unit (15, 18) of the control device transmitting the data and are included in a message sent over the serial bus (20). To this end, a transmission job for transmitting the message is provided to the serial interface (17) of control device (10) transmitting the message which controls the transmission. However, this occurs so that, when transmitting the message, use is not made of the data provided at the instant of providing the transmission job, but instead of updated data provided by the arithmetic/control unit in the interim since the instant of giving the transmission job. Moreover, advantageous bus subscriber stations for use in the method presented are also proposed.

A weaving machine having a rotating main shaft for driving the weaving machine, with a plurality of accessories on the weaving machine for weaving cloth is provided with an artificial signal of shaft position. A generator generates the artificial signal representing the desired angular position of the main driving shaft of the weaving machine. This generator generates the signal independent of actual angular position of the main shaft. A drive drives the main shaft of the weaving machine. The drive is responsive to the signal for the desired angular position of the main shaft. This drive responds independently of the actual angular position of the main shaft of the weaving machine. At least one weaving machine accessory is present for performing functions on the cloth being woven, such as a thread tensioning device, cloth takeoff device, or nozzle controls, for projectile-type weft insertion. These accessories also receive the artificial signal of desired shaft position, and function responsive to the signal. The arrangement avoids the inevitable inaccuracy introduced when main driving shafts with varying dynamic loads minutely vary at positions of shaft rotation takeoff. An apparatus and method for weaving machine control is disclosed.

Sequential control circuit for sequentially controlling the operation of mechanical equipment, for example, an electrophotographic copying apparatus including various devices having respective smaller devices is characterized in that a first train of clock pulses having a fixed predetermined frequency is converted into a third train of clock pulses whose respective pulses are in synchronism with respective pulses of a second train of clock pulses sequentially generated in accordance with respective driven rates of the sequentially driven devices, so that a respective digital timer circuit which is preset with operational time data of its respective device is capable of successively performing the decrement of the predetermined time in response to the respective pulses of the respective third train of clock pulses.
