An error detection unit detects a difference between an estimated and actual output of the asset. Based on the magnitude of the difference, the error detection unit determines whether an input value of the particular asset is similar to input values of the plurality of industrial assets and whether an output value of the particular asset is similar to output values of the plurality of industrial assets. If the input value of the particular asset is similar to the input values of the plurality of industrial assets and the output value of the particular asset is not similar to the output values of the plurality of industrial assets, then the error detection system sets an alarm. However, if the input value of the particular asset is not similar to the input values of the plurality of industrial assets, the error detection system considers whether to adapt the process model for the particular asset to account for a new process state or condition not considered when creating the process model for the particular asset.

A user interface provides the operator of an industrial process control system the ability to set user-initiated alarms on selected parameters representative of a process being controlled, independent of predetermined alarm limits. The interface allows the operator to identify parameters to monitor, when to monitor the parameters, when to trigger alarms, and allows the operator to determine how to be notified that a user-initiated alarm has been triggered. A template having blanks to fill in information related to the alarm limits is provided and has drop down menus providing alternatives. Selecting an icon on a schematic representative of a process causes the template to pop up in a window type of environment with relevant data already filled in. The completion of the template results in a message being sent to a process module which provides real time values of the parameters.

The stepper motors each include a permanent magnet rotor and four stator windings which respond to quadrature phase motor drive signals generated by the game control circuit to incrementally rotate the reels. A reel motion monitoring circuit senses back EMF on each stator winding to generate an error signal which inhibits play in the event a motor fails to respond to an applied drive signal or a reel is moved by tampering.

A method of monitoring machining load on a numerically controlled machine tool in such a way that incorrect judgment due to variations in machining load which are caused according to the machining conditions is made less frequent. The method is started by performing plural trial cutting operations. A signal indicating the machining load during these trial cutting operations is sampled and thus, sampling data is obtained. Reference data about the machining load and its variance are calculated from the sampling data and loaded in a reference data table. A threshold value according to variations in the sampling data is established, using the value of the variance. A load monitor means compares the reference data with data about the machining load obtained from actual measurements whenever each interval of time elapses. A decision is made as to whether the difference exceeds the threshold value. In this way, the machining load is monitored.

Thereby, a high-speed tapping can be effected, the number of defective products can be reduced, and the threads accurately tapped.
