    摘要: A distributed residential alarm system and method provides protection of occupants and property from loss due to theft or hazardous conditions in the residence such as fire or flooding. The alarm system includes multiple alert detectors coupled via a wireless connection to multiple control units each capable of providing master control functions. The control units and detectors communicate with the detectors and each other via a token-passing scheme, whereby unit pairs may be located within the distance limitations of each nodal connection, thus providing coverage over a longer distance than would be possible with communication to a central unit. The system also provides modularity and scalability in that sensors may be easily added to the system and the system is not dependent on any one of the control units in order to function. An apartment management system provides an alternative organization wherein apartment dwellers all can be notified of an alert condition in one of the premises, while preventing false alarm nuisance by initially limiting the alarm to the unit where the alarm condition exists. If after a predetermined time, the alarm in the originating unit has not been cancelled, the other units are notified.

    摘要: A vehicle communication device is installed in a vehicle and used for an ETC or other DSRC system. The vehicle communication device can be switched between a normal mode and a radio wave emitting mode. The vehicle communication device in the normal mode transmits a response signal in response to receiving a pilot signal from a roadside radio device. The vehicle communication device in the emitting mode continuously emits a radio wave through the windshield of the vehicle independently of whether it receives the pilot signal from the roadside radio device, and a checking device receives the radio wave. The checking device determines whether the intensity of the received radio wave is greater than a predetermined threshold. The result of the determination is reported to a staff in a service or repair shop so that a shop staff can determine whether the vehicle communication device can be used for the ETC or other DSRC system based on the reported result.

    摘要: A system and method are provided for transmitting equipment installation data between an equipment installer and an operations center server. An installer of equipment, such as a monitoring device attached to a vehicle, calls an operations center server via a wireless telecommunications device, such as a wireless telephone. The call placed by the equipment installer is transmitted to a transfer server. A voice-to-data software application at the transfer server converts the communication to data for transfer to the operations center server. The operations center server prompts the installer with a series of prompts to obtain equipment installation information. Prompts from the operations center server are transmitted in data to the transfer server where those prompts are converted to voice before being transmitted to the equipment installer's wireless telephone. The equipment installer responds to prompts from the operations center server with required installation information, such as equipment identification numbers, vehicle identification numbers, and the like. Once the desired equipment is installed in the vehicle or equipment item, other tests such as an alarm test may be performed.

    摘要: A system and method for monitoring remote equipment such as HVAC equipment, are provided. A sensor is in communication with a piece of remote equipment. An interface unit, having a message generating mechanism, is capable of receiving signals from the sensors. A central computer server is in communication with the interface unit and is adapted to receive and preferably store messages generated by the interface unit from a variety of different data transports. When a sensor detects an exception condition in a piece of remote equipment, the sensor transmits a signal to the interface unit, and the interface unit generates an incoming exception message and forwards the message to the server. The server forwards at least one outgoing exception message to at least one predetermined user-defined communication device based on the incoming exception message. Multiple outgoing exception messages may be forwarded to multiple communication devices in accordance with a user-defined message profile, or a single outgoing exception message may be forwarded in response to receipt of multiple incoming exception messages. The message profile is remotely configurable by the user.

    摘要: A wireless alarm system (10) employs two-way transceivers (32, 60) in a network of smoke detectors (16), a base station (12), and other sensors. A keypad (14) is not needed because the system is reset by pressing a Test/Silence button (66) built into every detector or sensor. A siren is also eliminated because a sounder (64) in every detector sounds an alarm when any sensor is triggered. This is possible because every detector includes a transceiver that can receive alarm messages from any other detector. AC power wiring is also eliminated because the base station and sensors are battery powered. Only a telephone connection (48) is needed if the system is to be monitored. In apartments or dormitory installations, smoke detectors in one apartment relay alarm messages to the next apartment, and onto the next, and so on, to a centralized base station for the entire facility. The centralized base station can be located in an apartment manager's office for immediate notification of an alarm, improper smoke detector operation, low or missing battery indications, and dirty smoke detector indications. The two-way wireless alarm system can save many lives in apartments, where smoke detectors batteries are often depleted or removed.
