    摘要: A machine control gage system which is able to immediately recognize the cause of abnormal machining of a workpiece. The machine control gage system determines a change in the outer diameter of the workpiece during grinding, and outputs a control signal to a grinding machine controller when the measurement of the workpiece reaches a predetermined size. The machine control gage system is provided with a memory for containing measurement data obtained during grinding. By entering a predetermined command from a keyboard after machining, the measurement data relating to a specific workpiece can be retrieved from the memory, and the machining process can be repeatedly reproduced on a meter and/or a display means such as a bar-graph display. By fast-forwarding and slow-forwarding, the machining process can be monitored in further detail.

    摘要: Apparatus and methods controlling a process producing segments of product wherein a destabilizing event of a particular type periodically destabilizes the process, resulting in product or process deviation from a target parameter associated with a number of segments of the product, from segment number 1 to segment number n. The method associates, with respective ones of the n units of product, deviation amounts corresponding to historical deviation amounts for the respective so-numbered units of product in past occurrences of the particular type destabilizing event, and applying to selected ones of the n segments of product correction factors derived from respective associated historical deviation amounts for the respective units of product, thereby making pro-active adjustments to respective ones of the n units of product, upon occurrence of the destabilizing event. Preferred methods include applying the correction factors to each of the n units of product. Preferred correction factors are registration factors. In preferred sets of adjustment instructions, at least some of the adjustment instructions include elements derived from vertical analysis and from horizontal analysis, of deviation data. The method is preferably applied to manufacturing processes producing discrete units of absorbent article product for personal care use in absorbing body exudates. The invention contemplates combining and/or modifying up to 10, in some cases up to 20 or more deviation profiles, and thereby obtaining a representative composite correction profile up-date element, before updating the correction profile.

    摘要: A method is described for grinding a composite workpiece to form a component having concentric and eccentric cylindrical regions. The method comprises mounting the workpiece in a computer controlled grinding machine having a grinding wheel the advance and withdrawal of which is controllable by a program entered into the controlling computer, loading a wheelfeed controlling program into the computer, relatively positioning the grinding wheel and the workpiece to align the wheel with a first selected region of the workpiece, advancing the grinding wheel towards the selected region so as to grind the surface thereof, controlling the wheelfeed so as to maintain grinding contact between the grinding wheel and the workpiece so as either to grind a concentric cylindrical region thereon or an offset cylindrical region thereon as required, information about each selected region of the workpiece being stored in the computer and addressed as appropriate so that the wheelfeed can be controlled appropriately depending on whether a selected workpiece region is to be ground as a concentric or an offset cylindrical region. The method allows a workpiece having both concentric and offset cylindrical regions thereon to be ground using a single grinding machine under computer control without demounting the workpiece from the machine. A computer controlled grinding machine is described as are programs for controlling the machine.

    摘要: A method for measuring the contour of a machined part with a contour gage apparatus, having a probe assembly including a probe tip for providing a measure of linear displacement of the tip on the surface of the part. The contour gage apparatus may be moved into and out of position for measuring the part while the part is still carried on the machining apparatus. Relative positions between the part and the probe tip may be changed, and a scanning operation is performed on the machined part by sweeping the part with the probe tip, whereby data points representing linear positions of the probe tip at prescribed rotation intervals in the position changes between the part and the probe tip are recorded. The method further allows real-time adjustment of the apparatus machining the part, including real-time adjustment of the machining apparatus in response to wear of the tool that occurs during machining.
