摘要: A robot apparatus with a first barcode scanner to be used for collecting positional data perpendicular to its scan direction and a second barcode scanner to be used for collecting positional data perpendicular to its scan direction where the first and second barcode scanner are mounted substantially orthogonal to each other is, for example, a library storage system, is provided. The first barcode scanner scans the target while the robotic apparatus is moved in a direction perpendicular to the scan path of the first barcode scanner. The second barcode scanner scans a second target substantially orthogonal to the first target while the robot is moved substantially perpendicular to the scan path of the second barcode scanner. Positional data is collected in conjunction with the readability limits of the first and the second target. The central position of the first and second target in a substantially perpendicular direction to the scan path is determined by the readability of the target and the correlating positional data of the robot.

摘要: An apparatus for storage and radial discharge of selected like items, including, a rotary storage device for storing a plurality of the selected like items at individual radial positions. Rotation of the storage device provides for positioning of individual ones of the stored items for ejection of individual ones of the stored items outwardly. A plurality of retainers are coupled to the stored items. Each retainer includes a first position to retain a stored item and a second position to release a stored items for ejection. A retrieval mechanism triggers individual ones of the retainer means to release individual ones of the stored items. A catcher interupts the ejected items along a substantially horizontal path and directs the caught items along a substantially vertical path into a collector device. A controller is responsive to the location of individual ones of the stored items to control the retrieval mechanism to trigger the proper retainer to allow the desired item to be released and ejected.

摘要: A retrieval apparatus comprises a lifter carrying an unloadable cassette in the form of a rectangular box containing a great number of film sheets, a retrieving mechanism for selecting and taking out a film sheet from the cassette in operative relation to the upward movement of the lifter, a positioning mechanism for receiving the selected film sheet from the retrieving mechanism by way of a delivery mechanism and setting the desired frame of the film sheet at the projecting position in accordance with a signal instruction, and a returning mechanism for returning the film sheet into the cassette after completion of projection. After the cassette is placed on the lifter, the opening of the lid of the cassette, selection and positioning of the film sheet, projection, and returning the film sheet into the cassette are all conducted automatically.

摘要: In a system employing a rotating magnetic head drum and a plurality of magnetic cards retained in a cartridge, a braking means which stops the motion of a card as it is transported from the cartridge to a fixed, predetermined position around the drum''s periphery. The brake comprises a plate having a plurality of holes therein with a partial vacuum being formed on a first side of the plate. A pick-off means picks off the leading edge of card as it is being transported from the cartridge to its fixed position around the drum and diverts said card along a path adjacent the second side of said plate. The partial vacuum effect pulls the card into friction contact with said plate and thereby slows its motion. A stop bar is positioned to completely stop the motion of the card after it has been slowed down substantially by the plate.

摘要: A removable card-handling cartridge for retaining a plurality of cards in a side-by-side relationship for use by a card-handling apparatus is described. Included in the removable cartridge, is a plurality of end-coded cards retained by a plurality of coded card-retaining pins, the pins being selectively actuatable for permitting the selection of individual ones of the end-coded retained cards for access to the card-handling apparatus. In addition to the card-retaining pins, an improved gating-rod arrangement for providing auxiliary support of the cards is shown. An improved high-resistance fluid nozzle arrangement is illustrated for keeping the cards separated while in the retained position. The entire removable cartridge is illustrated in a form permitting the removal of the cartridge, together with the cards retained therein, with a minimum amount of disconnection from the card-handling apparatus.

摘要: A radio-frequency identification (RFID)-based configuration detection system for automatically detecting, directing, and/or configuring the physical configuration of a complex system constituted by a set of one or more types of mateable components. The RFID configuration detection system utilizes a set of mateable RFID tags arranged so that each mateable component includes at least one mateable RFID tag. Each RFID tag includes information about its associated component and is arranged so that when the components are mated, their associated RFID tags also are mated. The system uses at least one RFID reader to read RFID tag signals from the RFID tags. The RFID tag signals provide information about mating status of the component, as well as information about components themselves. An information processing system operably connected to the RFID reader receives and process information concerning the number and type of mated connections and thus the configuration. Changes to the configuration, such as mated connections being unmated, can be tracked to provide real-time configuration information.

摘要: An archive apparatus is provided for storing and archiving laboratory samples including radio frequency identification means. The apparatus comprises a support structure or cabinet (4), a drawer (6) translatable in a translation direction (12) into and out of the support structure (4), and sample support means comprising ribs (8) associated with the drawer (6) for supporting an array (10) of samples or slides (20) spaced along the translation direction (12) for movement with the drawer (6). A radio frequency reader antenna (14) is connected to the support structure (4) adjacent to the drawer (6) and recording means (34, 38) are adapted to operatively communicate with the reader antenna (14) to store information obtained from the radio frequency identification means of laboratory samples or slides (20) supported by the drawer (6). The apparatus can automatically collect and store current information concerning the samples or slides (20) in the drawer (6) as a consequence of opening and closing of the drawer (6).
