摘要: Printed products, such as newspapers are fed past a counting station arranged in imbricated fashion, preferably folded edges passing downstream first. A high intensity light source is arranged so that its light beams are oriented at an angle which, while illuminating upper surfaces of the newspapers, causes the forward folded edges to cast a shadow upon the upper surface of a downstream newspaper that the forward edge of the newspaper creating the shadow rests upon. An image sensing device creates an image of a given region which includes the leading edge of the newspaper creating the shadow. This image is compared with stored criteria to determine if the nullshadownull is due to a leading edge of a newspaper and to thereby discriminate a newspaper leading edge from other spurious conditions which, although they may create a nullshadownull, fail to meet the criteria of a leading edge of a newspaper.

摘要: A contact sensor apparatus counts associated sheet products as they pass over a generally planar surface. a vacuum source draws a bottom surface of a sheet product onto the planar surface. A contact member is selectively deflected through engagement with the sheet product and deflects upwardly at the passage of the trailing edge of the sheet product. The contact member is connected to a sheet of piezoelectric material that is distorted upon deflection of the contact member. This produces an electrical charge representative of passage of paper over the sensor apparatus.

摘要: A ring-jet sensor (24) which is operated with air and is connected to an air-carrying line (23) is directed at the objects (27). The ring-jet sensor (24) is also coupled to a pressure sensor (37), the signal of which passes to a counter (40). In order to avoid connecting two lines to the ring-jet sensor (24), the said ring-jet sensor and also the pressure sensor (37), are each connected, in parallel, to one branch line (23, 35). The branch lines (23, 35) can carry either compressed air or suction air.

摘要: A counting device for counting the number of objects such as folded box blanks in a flow of folded box blanks characterized by a sensor having a portion engaging a leading edge of a blank in the flow and being moved to activate a pulse generating device. The device also includes an arrangement to lift the portion of the sensor out of engagement after the pulse has been generated to enable resetting the pulse generator and engaging the next following object of the flow.

摘要: An apparatus for counting the sheets of a stream of partly overlapping sheets wherein the leaders of the next-following sheets normally rest on the trailing ends of the preceding sheets has a transporting unit which defines a path having two mutually inclined portions with the second portion sloping downwardly at an angle of 15 to 90 degrees relative to the first portion so that the leaders of successive sheets are lifted off the trailing ends of the respective preceding sheets. A photocell generates signals on detection of successive leaders while the leaders are on their way from the first into the second portion of the path, i.e., while the leaders are separated from the trailing ends of the preceding sheets, and such signals are transmitted to a counter which regulates the conversion of sheets into a series of stacks containing preselected numbers of superimposed sheets. The photocell is installed substantially midway between the longitudinal marginal portions of the stream. The sheets which travel past the photocell are subjected to the deforming action of an endless belt or chain which causes the upper sides of the sheets to assume a concave shape with the deepmost portion of each sheet extending in parallelism with the direction of transport of the stream.

摘要: The disclosure relates to an air pressure sensor comprising a first air passage, a branch passage having an opening into the air passage, a sensor in the branch passage responsive to variation in air pressure in the opening and jet means for air flow through the first passage adjacent the opening to the branch passage to create an increased depression in static pressure as compared with the remainder of the air passage to enhance the response of the pressure sensor in the branch passage when air flow through the first passage occurs. The air passage terminates in a probe having an orifice to be opened and closed by the absence of and presence of a surface in contact with the probe so that the pressure sensor indicates whether or not the probe is in contact with the surface. The arrangement is particularly suitable for counting a "shingled" stream of sheets such as signatures, the stream passing the orifice to the probe such that the orifice is opened and closed as successive sheets pass the probe, the resulting signal in the air pressure sensor being used to operate a counting device.

摘要: An apparatus for forming an indicium in a stream of moving signatures, consisting of a signature displaced laterally from the stream and corresponding to a predetermined count of signatures, comprises an idler roller mechanism connected with a rotatable idler roller shaft and a series of vacuum heads located adjacent to and downstream of the idler roller mechanism. The vacuum heads are mounted to a vacuum head shaft laterally movable with respect to the signatures. A detector such as a laser detector coupled with a counter is used to actuate the system. When a predetermined count is reached as determined by the detector and counter, the idler roller shaft is caused to rotate to lower the idler roller and the signature corresponding to the count contacts the tops of each vacuum head. Simultaneously, a partial vacuum is formed in the recessed vacuum chamber of each head binding the targeted signature to the heads. The vacuum head shaft is then moved laterally to displace the held signature a short distance to form a tab.

摘要: The invention relates to an electric control arrangement intended for use with object detecting systems, which include, inter alia, a light source (2) intended for transmitting light beams in a direction in which an object (3) to be detected can be expected to appear, at least one receiver unit (4, 5) for receiving light beams reflected by a detected object, and electrical and/or electronic devices for evaluating and detecting the presence of the object in response to variations that occur in the received reflected light beams as a result of relative movement between the object (3) to be detected and light beams (2a) transmitted by the light source. It is proposed in accordance with the invention that the light source (2) is arranged to transmit the light beams with an intensity which can be varied in time, and that the receiver unit (4, 5) receiving the reflected light beams is controlled in a manner such that reception takes place under those time periods in which the light source (2) transmits light of high intensity and also during those time periods in which the light source (2) transmits light (2a) of low intensity.
