摘要: A method and apparatus for counting indeterminately spaced articles traveling in a continuous stream. Successive individual lead articles of the stream are diverted from their direction of movement in an oblique direction. A sensor located beneath the stream at the point of oblique movement detects the sequential presence and absence of articles which information is accumulated to obtain a count. For counting rod-shaped articles, such as cigarettes, the method may be embodied in a drum having a helical groove to move the rods, the drum being located above a reflective scanning sensor head.

摘要: An optoelectronic protective device for providing switching signals when an unauthorized object is present in a passageway or an opening through a wall. A light source illuminates the opening, and a camera forms a picture of at least one of the wall surfaces defining the opening. A camera forms a picture of at least one of the wall surfaces and directs it onto a position resolving light receiver that generates picture signals for evaluation to determine if an unauthorized project is in the opening. The light source, the light receiver, the camera, as well as a control unit, are mounted in a housing that is configured to be secured to at least one of the wall surfaces of the opening so that it extends only negligibly into the opening, and the light source illuminates a spatial angle and the camera has an angular field of view that are sufficiently large so that objects having a predetermined minimum size present in the opening are reliably detected.

摘要: A small object cassette processing station for depositing small objects into selected cells of a small object cassette. The station comprises a bulk small object bin structured and operable to retain a bulk quantity of small objects of a selected type. The station additionally comprises a small object counting and parsing subsystem configured to parse a plurality of groups of small objects received from the bulk quantity of the small objects retained in the bulk small object bin. Each group of small objects comprises a number of small objects by a central control system. The station further comprise a small object distribution subsystem configured to receive each parsed group of small objects and deposit each parsed group of small objects into one of a plurality of small object cells of a small object cassette as stipulated by the central control system.

摘要: A mechanism for counting the number of articles in a stream of overlapped articles which move past a datum point. Each article has a leading edge that presents a step as it passes the datum point and, except for the first article, there is an adjacent surface of an adjacent article just upstream from it. A base carries drive means for driving the stream past the datum point. A sensor is mounted at the datum point which is responsive to the change in a physical condition, such as light intensity, fluid pressure, or the like. A change of condition is derived by observing with the sensor the said physical condition in the region between the step and its adjacent surface, and impeding the said observation, such as by blocking off the sensor from said region. The device includes a deflector surface to flex the article and thereby open such region for each step. In one embodiment, a parallelogram movement is mounted to the base with a mobile portion adapted to move toward and away from the base. A wheel is mounted to the mobile portion and is adapted to roll along the stream of articles so as to establish the elevation of the mobile portion relative to the said articles. The sensor is carried by the mobile portion at the datum point, and the number of articles is counted as a function of the number of steps (i.e., of the leading edges of the approaching articles) which pass the datum point. A counter is actuated by the sensor to count the number of steps.
