    摘要: A container and system for handling damaged nuclear fuel, and a method of making the same. In one embodiment, the invention is a damaged fuel container having a specially designed top cap that can be detachably coupled to the elongated tubular wall by simply translating the top cap into proper position within, the elongated tubular wall, wherein biased locking elements automatically lock the top cap to the elongated tubular wall. In another embodiment, the vent screens of the damaged fuel container are integrally formed rather than being separate components. In still other embodiments, the lower vent screens are arranged on an upstanding portion of the damaged fuel container. In an even further embodiment, the elongated tubular wall is formed by an extrusion process.

The container has a hollow cylindrical container part which is closed at the free ends of the container part in a fluid-tight manner by a respective single-piece closure stopper. The closure stopper is provided with a channel that fluidically connects the flushing chamber of the container part to the exterior exclusively in an intermediate position, which is assumed prior to reaching an end position during the assembly process and in which the closure stopper additionally projects out of the container part by an axial length compared to the end position of the closure stopper.

    摘要: A plurality of capsules are made available, each for receiving a fuel rod, and each comprising a tubular sheath that is closed at its ends by plugs. A loading structure is placed in a pool to receive at least one capsule with its axis vertical. A device for loading fuel rods into the capsule is secured onto an open top end of the structure. Defective rods are taken one by one and inserted one by one into empty capsules in the loading structure. For each capsule that is to receive a defective rod, a top plug of the capsule is unscrewed, a defective rod is inserted into the capsule through a guide device of the loading device, the top plug is screwed back onto the capsule, and the capsule containing the rod is put into a location in the support structure.

    摘要: Methods and apparatus for securing a tie rod to a shroud support structure are described. One embodiment of the apparatus is a toggle bolt assembly including a toggle bolt body having an upper threaded portion and a lower toggle engaging portion. A toggle is rotatably secured to the toggle bolt body at the lower toggle engaging portion. A crimp nut including a threaded nut portion and a crimp collar is threadedly secured to the upper threaded portion of the toggle bolt body. Such toggle bolt assembly also includes a sleeve sized to have at least a portion of the toggle bolt body and the toggle located therein. The sleeve has a toggle opening so that the toggle can rotate from a first position in which the toggle is substantially located within the sleeve to a second position in which surface engaging portions of the toggle extend beyond the sleeve. A lower portion of the sleeve has a toggle rotation surface to facilitate rotation of the toggle.

    摘要: The plug removal apparatus comprises a ram mounted in a rod both of which are mounted in an activating cylinder. The rod is capable of being scrwed into the plug such that when the cylinder is activated, the cylinder causes the ram to push the expander relative to the plug while the rod holds the plug thereby relieving the pressure on the plug. The activating cylinder may then be activated so as to extract the plug from the tube using short strokes. The apparatus is capable of being used manually or remotely so as to be able to remove plugs from heat exchangers and nuclear steam generators.
