    摘要: An exhaust control device includes a wear indicator disposed within a housing of the exhaust control device. The wear indicator is arranged to be exposed to a flow of exhaust gas through the exhaust control device. The wear indicator has a first observable state indicative of remaining useful life of the exhaust control device. The wear indicator is responsive to a flow of exhaust gas through the exhaust control device to assume a second observable state indicative of the exhaust control device having reached the end of its useful life.

    摘要: There is described a fuse comprising a housing and a current carrying strip of metal comprising a fuselink enclosed in the housing, each end of which electrically extends through the housing as an electrical connection. There being at least one first section of the metal strip for severing upon predetermined fault conditions, and at least one second section of the metal strip, distanced from the first section, having the properties of a hinge for pivoting. There further being at least one exothermic source in the proximity of the first section that substantially upon severance of the metal strip at the first section is ignited, and causes at least one segment of the severed metal strip to be propelled about the second section comprising the hinge. There further being an arc chute in proximity to the path of the moving severed edge of the first section such that fault current limiting is obtained.

    摘要: A single-vented fuse tube has a bore lined with an arc-extinguishing material. A movable contact moves away from a stationary contact in the bore and toward and out of an exhaust opening. An arc established between the contacts causes de-ionizing arc-extinguishing gases to evolve from the bore. The gas is exhausted from the exhaust opening. The bore is mildly tapered--to about 1.degree. to 3.degree. of included angle--so that its greatest diameter is at the exhaust opening. The included angle and extent of the taper are sufficient to obviate stagnation of the gases evolved deep within the bore and clogging of the bore.

    摘要: An electric fuse includes a dielectric casing having an explosion chamber and an open end communicating with the chamber, a pair of contacts disposed in the casing, an electric fuse element disposed in the chamber and connected in series with the contacts, and a metallic cap covering the open end. The cap may be apertured and includes a transparent dielectric sheet between the cap and casing to provide a window. The dielectric casing has a plurality of closely spaced alternating longitudinal ridges and grooves along the outer side adjacent the open end extending from the open end toward the base of the casing. The metallic cap tightly covers the open end and is in contact with the ridged side of the casing and includes a rim which is bent inwardly to grip the dielectric casing below the end of the ridges. Upon explosion of the fuse element, gas formed in the explosion chamber temporarily lifts the cap and sheet and escapes past the open end under the cap, with the space between the cap and the grooves providing a path for the gas in the direction away from the open end toward the base of the casing. The improved venting structure permits use of moldable thermosetting plastic materials for the casing.

    摘要: In a fuse cartridge of the kind comprising a tubular body, a pair of heads respectively disposed at the ends of this body to close same and to define therewith a non liquid-tight inner space, and fusible elements which connect the said heads with each other, there is provided within the latter pressure damping means to reduce the pressure peak which is applied to the outer body when the cartridge operates. These means may be in the form of a core and/or a sleeve of a flexible cellular material with closed cells, or of a deformable container filled with a gas under an appropriate pressure, or of calibrated holes which connect the inner space of the cartridge with the outside, the inner ends of such holes being covered by a grid which retains the arc quenching material in which the fusible elements of the cartridge are embedded. Such a cartridge is more particularly adapted for operation within an oil tank.
