摘要: A method and system for decoding control data in GSM-based systems using inherent redundancy and physical constraints are presented. At least one estimated GSM-based bit sequence may be selected by performing searches that start from trellis junctions determined by the decoding algorithm. The estimated bit sequences may be selected based on corresponding redundancy verification parameters. At least one physical constraint test may be performed on the selected estimated GSM-based bit sequences to select a decoded output GSM-based bit sequence. A multilayer decoding process may comprise a burst process and a frame process. Results from a first burst process may be utilized to generate a decoded GSM bit sequence in the frame process. The frame process may utilize redundancy information and physical constraints to improve the performance of a decoding algorithm.

摘要: Disclosed is a system and method for improving efficiency and overall capacity of data transmission within a given bandwidth in a GPRS/EDGE wireless air-link channel. A GPRS data terminal, mobile unit and/or other end-user equipment is equipped with a (specially designed) Trellis coder that replaces the traditional cyclic coder and allows encoding and decoding of data via the Trellis code algorithm. Trellis coder eliminates errors in data transmission, increases capacity in a given bandwidth, and corrects problems with fading channels associated with wireless transmission. The Trellis coder is also utilized for voice transmission and may be fabricated on an integrated circuit for utilization within hand-held devices.

摘要: A modified branch metric for decoders and equalizers is described. In one embodiment the branch metric includes determining a set of branch metric values for symbols of a received digital signal, the branch metric values indicating a correlation between symbols obtained using a reduced calculation set, the reduced calculation set being obtained by adding a common term to all of the branch metric values before determining the correlation. The branch metric may be followed by determining path metrics for paths through a decision tree using the branch metric values, and selecting a path and a corresponding symbol sequence in the received digital signal using the path metric values.

摘要: A method of error concealment or correction, suitable for signals such as speech, image and video signals, and particularly for such signals as transmitted over wireless and ATM channels. The method has improved stability for large block sizes and bunched errors. It is based on a modification of the discrete Fourier transform which is equivalent to a permutation of the Fourier coefficients. Thus, as with the conventional Fourier transform, setting a contiguous set of coefficients equal to zero in the transmitted signal enables error concealment techniques to be used at the receiver. However, with the modified transform, the zeroes are not bunched together in the spectrum, so the instability problems that arise when the conventional Fourier transform is used are mollified, and much larger block sizes can be used.

摘要: There is provided an interleaving method capable of reducing burst errors. Transmitted data includes a plurality of radio blocks. It is assumed that each radio block includes four burst signals and each burst signal includes data signals of 448 bits, flag signals, and a synchronizing signal. On the basis of the occurrence frequency of burst errors, the communication buffer capacity, the transmission delay time allowed between the transmission and reception, the kind of communication data, and radio wave propagation characteristics, the transmission side selects as the burst length of interleaving, a value from among values 4, 8, 16, 28 and 32 that are multiples of the number 4 of burst signals included in each of the radio blocks and that are divisors of the total number 448 of bits of data signals included in each of radio blocks. The transmission side transmits the selected burst length to the reception side, and conducts interleaving on the basis of the selected burst length. The reception side conducts deinterleaving on the basis of the burst length transmitted from the transmission side.

摘要: A turbo decoder has at least two Bahl, Cocke, Jelinek, and Raviv (BCJR) processors in parallel, each in serial communication with respective interleavers. The BCJR processors and interleavers are in communication with a memory module that is internally split into non-overlapping memory banks. The turbo decoder includes respective sorter circuits in communication with the output of each BCJR processor/interleaver. A sorter circuit receives a data block from a BCJR processor/interleaver and directs the data block to the memory bank designated by an address assigned to the data block by an interleaver.
