Propulsion arrangement comprises a variable angle swash plate hydraulic pump coupled to a variable angle swash plate hydraulic motor and to a bypass path valve such that fluid circulates between the pump and motor to activate the arrangement to increase the speed and/or traction force when bypass path is in a closed state, and the fluid circulates across the motor via the valve to reduce a rotational speed and/or traction force of the tug when the path is in an opened state.

The invention solves the question of a system for transporting airplanes about airport apron from the parking location to the takeoff runway and from the landing location to the parking location with engines switched off. The system is made up of guiding grooves (5) in which guiding pins (9) installed in docking stations (8) move and are catch-fitted preferably to the front wheel (10) of the airplane (4). The guiding grooves (5) are covered from above by pivotable gratings (11) of a segmental design that open giving way to guiding pin (9) sliding in the guiding groove (5) and close following the passage of the guiding pin (9). Switching devices (12) are installed at locations of abrupt curves in the guiding grooves (4) as well as at locations of changes in direction.

The invention relates to an automatic system for maneuvering aircraft on the ground, based on driverless towing vehicles, (hereafter AGTV's), which can independently hold the undercarriage of the aircraft. In said system the AGTVs pull the aircraft from transfer areas on the taxiways of the runways to the stand and vice versa, allowing the propulsion systems of the aircraft to remain switched off during the taxiing process. The driverless AGTVs receive their driving jobs from a computer-aided guidance and management system which controls the AGTV fleet in a collision- and conflict-free manner.

An automated aircraft towing vehicle system for use with aircraft is provided. When coupled to an aircraft the towing tractor vehicle facilitates the movement of the aircraft without the requirement for use of the aircraft's jet engines. The towing vehicle system comprises a towing tractor vehicle having remotely controllable steering, braking, and acceleration. The remote system controller is located in the aircraft being towed such that the pilot of the aircraft being towed is capable of controlling the starting, stopping and steering of the towing tractor vehicle. The towing tractor vehicle further includes a remotely controllable de-coupling means. When the aircraft is towed to the desired location, the decoupling of the aircraft from the towing tractor vehicle is controllable by the remote system controller.

There is provided a method of moving an aircraft using an aircraft mover, in various instances, an aircraft tractor. The method comprises: a] accelerating the aircraft up to speed using one or more electric motors drivable by at least a fast-discharge electrical-energy storage and supply device during a high-power requirement of the aircraft mover; b] substantially maintaining a speed of the aircraft using a slow-discharge electrical-energy storage and supply device during a low-power requirement of the aircraft mover; c] monitoring a charge status of the slow-discharge and fast-discharge energy storage and supply devices and when a predetermined charge status is reached, automatically charging the slow-discharge and/or fast-discharge energy storage and supply devices via an onboard electricity generator; and d] regeneratively recharging the slow-discharge and/or fast-discharge electricity-energy storage and supply devices during at least deceleration of the aircraft coupled to the aircraft mover. There is also provided a method of controlling the power distribution to the motors within the aircraft mover, a dual electrical-energy storage and supply system and controller for implementing the method, a hybrid power delivery system for an aircraft mover incorporating the dual electrical-energy storage and supply system and controller, and an aircraft mover using the systems.
